BYD has just schooled everyone, the Japanese and Korean makes included, on how vehicle updates are done. Case is point is the 2026 Atto 3—a vehicle that not only features more power, faster charger, and better range, but in the process also switches over to “right wheel drive.”
When the Atto 3 EV first came out (read our review), one weakness was its front wheel drive architecture. Given that it’s an SUV / crossover, you’d think that BYD would have offered it with optional all wheel drive. Spoiler alert: they never did.
Realizing that not everyone wants to eat wheelspin for breakfast, BYD showed the flexibility of its self-developed e-Platform 3.0 to swap the 2026 Atto 3’s driven wheels to the rear (like its platform mate, the Seal sports sedan). Not only that, they’re now also offering the option of, you guessed it, all-wheel drive.
Along with the drive wheel swap-a-roo, the single motor version now gets an uprated electric motor delivering 313 horsepower (230 kW) and 380 Nm of torque. This helps drop the 0 to 100 km/h time to just 5.5 seconds. Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive goes for a combined 449 horsepower (330 kW) and 560 Nm of torque slashing its 0 to 100 km/h to a supercar-like 3.9 seconds. Regardless of the driven wheels, both 2026 Atto 3s feature an uprated towing capacity of up to 1,500 kilograms (braked).
The Atto 3 retains its 74.8-kWh LFP blade battery enough for 510 kilometers of WLTP range (470 kilometers for the all-wheel drive) but now has a heat pump to keep the battery at optimal temperature. The electrical architecture has also been updated from 400 to 800 volts boosting its fast-charging capability to 220 kW. 10 to 80 percent charge takes just 25 minutes.
The 2026 Atto 3 (Atto 3 Evo as it’s officially called in Europe) has the same external dimensions as the current Atto 3 but has been updated with new front and rear bumpers, new 18-inch alloy wheels, and a cleaner side profile with slimmer side skirts and a sportier spoiler at the roof’s trailing edge. The wheelbase is the same as before, but the new platform means a trunk that’s 50 liters larger than before (490 liters), expanding to 1,360 liters with the rear seats folded down. Even more impressive, it comes with a new front trunk that adds 101 liters of extra space!
Inside, the front cabin now features an airier feel, thanks to the relocation of the gear selector from a central position to a steering column-mounted shifter. There’s a fresh design of 8.8-inch digital instrument panel and the 15.6-inch central touchscreen. The feature list has been extended to include a heads-up display and even heated rear seats to complement the panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, power front seats, ambient lighting, USB Type C ports, and more.
Further improving its safety, the Atto 3 now has 7 SRS airbags to go with its full line-up of safety and ADAS functions.
The BYD Atto 3 Evo starts shipping in Europe in a couple of months, with other markets, possibly the Philippines to follow soon.

DeleteIf I could have a Pocket Rocket Crossover (2026 Atto 3 body) that does 0-100kph in under 4 sec., is AWD (2 Elect. Motors/LFP Battery), has a true Philippine Conditions range of 600km, at P2M at most, I would surely buy one.
200mm ground clearance unladen would be a bonus.

BYD is notorious for having the lowest ground clearance in most of their cars except the Shark. Yet they are selling it to flood prone countries. Also, they're pricing are very high like Toyota.
