New Car Sales Dipped 10 Percent Last January 2026

New car sales, combining figures from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), and other non-members reached 35,053 units last January 2026.

In terms of sales volume, this is a 26 percent market decline compared to December 2025’s 47,371 units and 10.2 percent lower than January 2025 figures.

In the official CAMPI-TMA breakdown, members recorded sales of 33,696 units. The balance—1,357—could be attributed to non-CAMPI-TMA members such as BYD. To recall, CAMPI-TMA included BYD in their year-end sales report to show a slight boost in sales.

According to CAMPI president Jose Maria Atienza, relatively lower sales during the first month of the year is expected, following the year-end rush last December. Moreover, he notes that the industry has delivered its best December performance since 2017 which could explain the weak January figure.

Atienza says the industry is on pace to meet its year-end goal of surpassing 500,000 sales. When market seasonality adjustment is factored in, January sales level aligns with the steady pace observed during the second half of last year.

Despite decline in both the passenger and commercial vehicle main categories, CAMPI sees a bright spot in the continuous growth in the electrified segment.

CAMPI and TMA members sold 2,610 electrified vehicles (xEVs) in January 2026, higher than the 1,600 sold in the same month last year. This number represents 7.75 percent of the total CAMPI-TMA vehicle sales.

  • Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle – 277 units (10.61%, +2,977.8%)
  • Hybrid Electric Vehicle – 2,072 units (79.39%, +43.4%)

  1. As it should. Our roads can no longer sustain the year on year increases, instead what's sustained is year on year additional times for traveling from point A to point B.

    1. Yes, and this is actually a good sign for cars in general. Less sales means modern cars are becoming/had become more durable. Plus its a bit of a silent protest against expensive new cars today.

  4. Is there reason to believe that were actually more cars sold in the Philippines in 2025 compared to 2024 IF brands outside CAMPI were included?

    1. Removing non-CAMPI members in the year-end 2025 report (which we did), it showed that auto sales were flat. It increased 3.7 percent once non-CAMPI members were factored in.

  5. No new enticing promos, no new car launches. This is why sales are low compared to Jan. 2025.

    1. Sales are down regardless of CAMPI only or CAMPI+non-CAMPI.

We stated it in the first paragraph.

  7. Low sales of luxury cars and commodities because the "aligators" are holding their "hard-earned loot" for now. Once "the issue" cools down, we'll see sales ramp up again, bring with it the country's GDP..... lol

  8. We need more variants and options for electrified vehicles as well as charging infrastructure.
