What Happened to the Toyota Alphard?

Pre-pandemic, it was tough to get a Toyota Alphard. It came to a point when dealers would resort to refunding fully paid Alphard units simply because there were others—casino high rollers and POGOs being two—who were willing to get one above and beyond the SRP. Two years later, Toyota Motor Philippines is offering hefty discounts on their luxury MPV.

While the Vios’s P 100,000 discount takes the headlines for Toyota’s Make Your Move February promo, scroll down their full list of offers, and you’ll notice that even the venerable Alphard is there. Until February 28, it comes with a P 152,500 cash discount. With an SRP of P 3.91 million, it drops the price to P 3.757 million.

This 4 percent discount may not sound significant in the greater scheme of things, but that’s even bigger than the typical amount of sales agent upsell tacked on Alphard units pre-pandemic (insurance, glass coating, etc.). Moreover, it drops its price close to its original 2018 SRP of P 3.58 million.

If that’s not enticing enough, the Alphard comes with a special pay light (50 percent downpayment, 60 months to pay) of just P 37,389, or a zero percent interest for as low as 10 percent downpayment (12 months to pay).

Heck, Toyota’s even throwing in free PMS up to 20,000 kilometers and free comprehensive insurance for one year on all Alphard transactions—cash, financing, bank PO.

Looking through Toyota’s sales data, the Alphard sold 1,642 units in 2019. Last year? That number dropped to just 370 units. That is a 77 percent drop right there. It’s amazing that just in a span of two years, the Alphard’s fortunes have faded.

  1. Could think of several reasons:

    1. Super Grandia Elite
    2. LC300
    3. POGOs exiting
    4. Too common on the road already
