2021 Honda City RS Hatchback Arrives In The Philippines For P 1.115M (w/ Specs)

Meet the newest member of the Honda City family: the first-ever 2021 City Hatchback. Designed to meet the needs of a wider group of customers, the City Hatchback fuses the defining characteristics of Honda’s sub-compact sedan—sportiness, spaciousness, and efficiency with the everyday versatility of a five-door hatchback.

The 2021 City Hatchback rides on the very same platform, and even shares the same exact 2,600-mm wheelbase measurement of its sedan sibling. To the naked eye, it’s basically the City sedan from the B-pillar forward, although on closer inspection, the City Hatchback does have a slightly taller roofline (up 21 mm).

The difference, though small, sets the tone for the City Hatchback’s added interior room. The all-new City is already known for its class-above spaciousness, but the City Hatchback takes things higher by freeing up even more rear legroom, while also adding the versatile ULTR seats.

A feature originally found in the Honda Jazz, this gives the City Hatchback the ability to adopt to its owner’s lifestyle by increasing its load space into one of four configurations: Utility (U) where the rear seats fold flat to increase rear storage space; Long (L) where the front passenger seat and rear passenger seats fold to accommodate long items; Tall (T) where the back seat cushions fold up to accommodate tall items; and finally, Refresh (R) where the front passenger seat can be made to connect to the rear seat creating a makeshift bed or relaxation space.

Like the City sedan, the City Hatchback is powered by a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine making 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. Mated to this is a CVT gearbox with paddle shifters. It also comes with Honda’s full gamut of fuel efficiency measures such as an eco-coaching light and ECON mode. Real world performance and fuel economy should be at par with the sedan given that the City Hatchback is just a tad heavier at 1,141 kilograms (up 21 kilograms).

As a style icon, the City Hatchback doesn’t disappoint, and comes solely in the high-end RS grade. Like the City RS sedan, the City RS Hatchback gets RS-specific bumpers front and back, a honeycomb grille, black sport side mirrors with turn signal indicators and rear spoiler, and RS emblems. Illumination is provided by LED head- and taillights, complemented by LED daytime running lights and front fog lights. For those keep score, the only noticeable between the sedan and hatchback is down to the 16-inch wheels with the City Hatchback getting Berlina Black alloys to the sedan’s two-tone machine-cut wheels.

The same RS treatment continues inside with the City RS Hatchback’s all-black motif with sporty red accents. Like the City RS sedan, the City RS hatchback has leather/suede combination seats, a leather steering wheel, automatic climate control with rotary knobs, aluminum sport pedals, push-button start/stop, and an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto/WebLink and eight speakers.

The City RS Hatchback also continues the City sedan’s impressive showing at the ASEAN NCAP. The five-star rated sub-compact carries 6 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, and Vehicle Stability Assist as standard. It also has a multi-view rear camera with dynamic guidelines.

The 2021 City RS Hatchback is now available at all authorized Honda dealerships nationwide. It comes with a suggested retail price of P 1,115,000 (a P 57,000 premium over the City RS sedan), and will come in four colors: Ignite Red Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic (exclusive to the City Hatchback), Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic (coming in June 2021), and Platinum White Pearl. While the City RS Hatchback is affected by the P 70,000 DTI safeguard bond, Honda Cars Philippines is implementing just a P 13,000 deposit to reduce the burden on City Hatchback buyers.

  2. Over 1.1M and Honda PH still found ways yo cut corners like rear drum brakes, no knee airbag, donut-type spare tire, rehashed decade-old redline peak HP 1.5L engine, rehashed rubber-banding unrepairable transmission, etc.

  3. I kinda wish Honda paired this with the i-MMD Hybrid instead :/

It's high time Honda brings in a proper hybrid, even though the CRZ was one, its just way too impractical for most people.

    1. As if people are gonna buy a Honda City hatchback hybrid at 1.3 Million Pesos..Not really worth the risk.

    2. Exactly this. Until the government comes up with legislation making hybrids viable, we won't see it in the sub-compact class. Perhaps if Honda is ballsy, we'll see it in the compact sedan/compact SUV class.

Turbo, sadly doesn't make sense too. It was designed to meet Thai eco car legislation specifically. They got tax breaks out of it and that's why pricing became viable. That's also the reason why Thailand gets the Mazda2 diesel and also a turbocharged Almera.

    3. Honda just likes to short change its Philippine customers. Bringing in Turbo engines won't be viable due to our "Poor fuel standards" while a Bently and Ferrari can survive at the local Shell station...

    4. They didn't give fuel as a reason. They simply said, it was the "appropriate engine" for our market. Again, it's down to Thailand having that eco car program.

    5. we just can't have nice things, can we? lol
