The 2022 Isuzu mu-X Grows To Suit The Next Generation Of Filipino Families

Isuzu’s strength has always been rooted in offering some of the best and most reliable commercial and industrial vehicles—ranging from standard delivery trucks to large-scale, heavy-duty haulers. Needless to say, the brand’s core philosophy has always been centered around transport; that is, providing solutions that are designed to move people and businesses.

Thus, it was only natural for Isuzu to scale into the consumer lifestyle markets with models like the D-MAX pickup truck and the mu-X SUV. With these, Isuzu proved that its reliability extends beyond utility by offering vehicles that are designed with premium comfort and features that support the daily travel requirements of the hard-working Filipino and his family.

However, today’s generation has also become more discerning and evolved in terms of what they are looking for in a modern SUV. It is no longer just about how the vehicle performs. There is more to be said about what a particular model has to offer and, more importantly, how it fits into the lifestyle of the persona that it aims to capture. As such, it was the perfect time for the all-new 2022 Isuzu mu-X to lay its cards on the table and show the market how it has grown and developed for a new generation.

The most notable change in the Isuzu mu-X is its appearance, which is a significant factor for the those who want their vehicles to complement their personal style. Similar to how there are people who seem to get better with age, the same goes for the all-new mu-X. This new generation has shed the utilitarian form of the previous and has progressed into a more refined and sophisticated design. The front grille is less imposing, yet gives off a strong stance that carries the personality of a vehicle that is meant to be noticed. The same goes for the stylish 20-inch wheels. The new shoes on the 2022 mu-X offers incredible balance with its minimalist, yet edgy design against the sportier body, complementing the sleek, clean lines that travel from the headlights to its tail.

This exterior sophistication is carried over into the interior. The all-new Isuzu mu-X offers a dash layout that is clean, precise, and organized. The 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system sits right in the center, with climate control right below, then followed by the gear shift. Each control point is within easy, ergonomic reach of the driver; well-placed, right down to the steering wheel control buttons. Another great feature is the fact that Bluetooth connectivity to the system is near-instantaneous. Once you’ve paired your device once, there is hardly any wait in your next connection. There is also the option of connecting by Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, although the latter is a bit trickier and takes some tinkering to get it setup.

Comfort is key, however, especially when family or group travel is in the equation. Coming into its new era, the all-new mu-X has softened up a bit, with design details that introduce form to its function. Again, taking a cue from its exterior upgrade, the mu-X now boasts of plush finishing for the inner door trim and console arm rests, along with the leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector. There is also wider legroom for the second row, while the third row has been adjusted in width and height to accommodate taller individuals. This is perfect, because it offers greater visibility for the driver, given the adjusted B-pillars, and it makes the mu-X more road travel-ready.

Being an Isuzu means that practicality will never be off the table. The third row is configurable, according to your travel and cargo needs. What’s perfect is that it can also fold down flat, giving you an even surface for loading bags and boxes without that awkward angle. In terms of capacity, the trunk can easily fit a full-sized golf bag horizontally.

Practicality also considers efficiency, and Isuzu is well-known in that regard. A leader in diesel technology, the 2022 mu-X uses a 3.0-liter 4JJ1-TCX mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It’s generally responsive in terms of acceleration and braking, not even breaking a sweat when tackling steep hill climbs. Its steering is stable too, with solid handling that feels planted. Over rougher roads is where the mu-X really shines. It makes everything feel so easy.

The changing times are pushing manufacturers to developing vehicles that answer more specific customer demands than general requirements, and this is what the all-new 2022 Isuzu mu-X has set out to do. While it may not be as lifestyle-centric and fashion-forward as some SUVs today, it has proven to be a contender for a market that still takes function into great consideration. The mu-X is the SUV that can grow with you, from being a daily workhorse in and out of town, to serving as your family’s go-to, and then, perhaps, to becoming the well-loved member for the generation after you.

  1. If we were all honest with what we really need, the average filipino family is better off buying a wagon or a minivan.

Also I have yet to see an SUV that is all that sporty or utilitarian.

  2. TBF it's useful for those that live outside the metro where wit will be used to haul stuff and drive in provincial roads.

Families in the city though just buy these for status symbol.
