All-New 2022 Honda Civic Scores Perfect At ASEAN NCAP Safety Test

The all-new 2022 Honda Civic can add another feather to its cap: a perfect 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

Honda’s 11th generation compact sedan, already recognized for having one of the best automotive interiors for 2021 can add unparalleled safety to its list of accomplishments. The model tested is built in Thailand, the same plant from where Honda Cars Philippines will source its Civics from.

The all-new Civic is the first Honda model to undergo the new, stricter ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 protocol, and so far, its 5-star safety rating is applicable to models for sale in Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia.

The variant tested, the EL+ comes with 6 SRS airbags (4 airbag variants are offered in certain markets) and is equipped with Honda SENSING giving it autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and driver attention monitor on top of ABS with EBD and stability control.

Most importantly, the 2022 Civic’s autonomous emergency braking can actually detect motorcycles—the first such vehicle to come with the technology for Southeast Asia.

Also, the Civic showed that the frontal occupant compartment remained stable during the frontal offset crash test. It also provided adequate protection to both the occupants’ chests and lower legs. Meanwhile, it scored a “good” rating in its side-impact test.

The Civic scored 83.47 out of 100, enough for a perfect 5-star rating. It scored 29.28 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection, 46.72 out of 51 in Child Occupant Protection, 19.07 out of 21 in Safety Assist, and 8.32 out of 16 in Motorcyclist Safety.

The all-new Honda Civic made its regional debut last August. It is expected to arrive in the Philippines sometime in November.
