Ford Exports Made For China Electrified Bronco; Now Known As Bronco Basecamp

A year after Ford unveiled a Made for China electrified Bronco New Energy, the Blue Oval has confirmed that they’ll be exporting it for global markets. One of the first markets to receive it? Australia and New Zealand.

Officially known as the Ford Bronco Basecamp, it leverages Ford’s joint venture partnership with Jiangling Motors—the same company that makes the Territory Hybrid.

Designed specifically for outdoor enthusiasts including trail runners, gravel cyclists, wild swimmers, fly fishers, and stargazer, the Bronco Basecamp comes with some unique features. On the Outer Banks trim, there’s an electric pop-up lift roof that increases interior headroom, maximizes air circulation, and creates an instant, open-air connection to the surrounding environment. The same trim also has a 7.5-liter warm/cool storage console built directly into the center console.

All Bronco Basecamp variants, meanwhile, has an interior that converts into a sleeping space which can even be paired with a custom-fit, full-length inflatable mattress. There’s even a Wild Kitchen built into the rear swing gate featuring an integrated fold down table to organize cooking gear.

While the Chinese market Bronco is available in both all-electric (BEV) and range extended electric (EREV) versions, the global version is limited so far to the latter. The super-hybrid powertrain system in this case pairs dual electric motors solely providing propulsion (176 horsepower at the front and 245 horsepower at the back). A turbocharged 1.5-liter acts as an on-board generator. The Bronco Basecamp also promises a driving range of around 800 to 900 kilometers.

A 43.7-kWh battery provides an all-electric range of around 220 kilometers. The same battery transforms it into an off-grid power station. Boasting up to a maximum of 6.6 kW of V2L, the Bronco Basecamp can easily run induction cooktops, coffee machines, high-end photography gear, camp lights, and laptop setups directly from the vehicle’s battery.

Despite looking a bit like the Escape-based Bronco Sport (it’s a unibody crossover), the Bronco Basecamp is a large vehicle. It measures some 5,004 meters in length and sports a 2,948-meter wheelbase. At 1,955 mm wide, it’s even wider than a non-Raptor Bronco.

In terms of design, it certainly looks every bit like a Bronco, down to the rear-mounted spare tire. However, there are some clever bits incorporated here like the BRONCO lettering that’s actually lit. The hood also has a functional air duct that reduces wind resistance, improving overall driving range.

The Bronco Basecamp heads down under by the second half of 2027.
