Alfa Romeo Enters the Philippines and They're Priced to Give the Germans a Scare (w/ Specs)

Petromax Enterprise, Alfa Romeo’s reseller in the Philippines is making its debut today with the soft opening of its showroom. Located at the ground floor of Bonaventure Plaza on Ortigas Avenue, Greenhills, San Juan, Petromax Enterprise is bringing in Italian flair to the premium car market with the announced availability of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Embodying Alfa Romeo’s la meccanica delle emozioni or “the mechanics of emotion” philosophy, the Giulia is a premium compact sedan going against the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

The nameplate reflects a 55-year heritage of producing lightweight, performance-oriented sedans and the 2018 Giulia is no different. With a near 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution, the Giulia features a striking exterior highlighted by its iconic “shield” grille. It’s packed with cutting-edge standard features such as HID headlights with LED daytime running lights, and LED taillights. At each corner, 225/50R17 wheels fill in the arches.

Locally, the Giulia is available solely in one variant: the Giulia Super and comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. With a twin-scroll turbo, it makes an even 200 horsepower at 4,500 rpm and 330 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. Mated to an 8-speed automatic, 0-100 km/h comes in at just 6.6 seconds.

The Giulia’s performance-oriented nature goes beyond the straight line. Along with the extensive use of aluminum (hood, roof, suspension), a carbon fiber driveshaft keeps the curb weight down on this rear-wheel drive sedan. In addition, driver-selectable modes—DNA Mode Selector in Alfa Romeo speak—offers three driving modes.

Inside, the driver-oriented cabin has a flat-bottomed steering wheel, trims in either aluminum or carbon fiber, and a full leather interior. Infotainment duties are handled by a 6.5-inch color display system with 8 speakers. And unlike its German counterparts, the Giulia comes packed with an extensive array of safety features from a full complement of airbags to lane keeping assist, and front collision automatic braking.

The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super comes in 12 exterior colors and 4 interior color combinations. Price is pegged at P 3,820,000.

Moving up from the Giulia, Petromax Enterprise is also making the Giulia Quadrifoglio sports sedan available. Going against the Audi RS, BMW M, and Mercedes-Benz AMG models, the Giulia Quadrifoglio has a Ferrari-made twin-turbocharged V6 engine. With 2.9 liters of displacement, it’s good for 505 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 600 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm. It’ll easily dispatch the century mark in just 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 307 km/h.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s newfound power is backed up by its high-performance Brembo braking system with 6-piston front and 4-piston calipers at the back. It also comes with a sports-tuned active suspension system, torque vectoring control, and an additional mode in its DNA Mode Selector.

It’s differentiated from the Giulia Super with its unique active aero front splitter, functional front air intakes, and special grille. It also has a lightweight carbon fiber hood, roof, and front spoiler. The wider Quadrifoglio-specific front fenders fit 19-inch wheels, measuring 245/35R19 in front and 285/30R19 at the back while a quad exhaust pipe system with an active bypass shows off the added performance from the back. Inside, the Giulia Quadrifoglio adds more niceties such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system (8.8 inches), and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon system.

The 2018 Giulia Quadrifoglio arrives with a price tag of just P 9,550,000. It’s available in no less than 14 exterior colors and 5 interior color combinations.

Petromax Enterprise says that a 10 percent deposit is required to secure either the Giulia or Giulia Quadrifoglio. Delivery time takes one week upon confirmation on the availability of the unit. All vehicles sold by them come with a 2-year or 50,000-kilometer warranty.

  1. I believe the Giulia is in the same segment as the C-Class, 3 Series and XE.

    2. I believe so too, and the Quadra variant is like the BMW M3 or Audi S4 segment fighter.

    3. It was called a premium midsized sports sedan by the distributor here. Corrected the story to reflect the correct size. Thanks.
