Can the P 1.148M 2021 Maxus D60 Shake Up the Compact SUV Segment? (w/ Specs)

After making a name for itself with MPVs and pickup trucks, Maxus Philippines is now entering the compact SUV segment with the 2021 D60. And with a starting price of just P 1.148 million, it might have what it takes to turn the segment on its head.

The 2021 D60 sports the Maxus “sea wave art” design philosophy, giving it a sense of rhythmic motion. In the Philippines, it comes in two variants—1.5T Pro and the 1.5T Elite. These two variants are immediately distinguishable with variant-specific grilles. The entry-level Pro has black with silver highlights (cool black gypsophila), while the top-level Elite has a dark cobweb design. The grille aside, the 1.5T Elite also sports full LED lighting (automatic headlights are standard though), larger alloy wheels (18-inch versus 17-inch in the 1.5T Pro), and power folding side view mirrors.

Regardless of variant, the Maxus D60 comes with just one powertrain: a 169-horsepower, 250 Nm of torque turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. This is coupled to a 7-speed dry-type dual clutch automatic with cruise control as standard.

Measuring at 4,720 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,760 mm, the D60 stands among the largest in its segment. While the Pro has a 5-seater configuration, the Elite has a 7-seater configuration in a 2+3+2 arrangement making it a perfect choice for families. And on that subject, ISOFIX anchors are standard, making it easy to fit child seats.

Standard on the D60 is an 8-inch touchscreen-based infotainment system with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, steering wheel controls, manual air conditioning with rear vents, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. Moving up to the 1.5T Elite, it gets leather seats and keyless entry with push-start.

In terms of safety, the D60 scores a perfect five-star rating at the C-NCAP (Chinese New Car Assessment Program). Both variants offer four SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program with hill hold control, tire pressure monitoring, parking sensors (front and rear for the 1.5T Elite), and a reverse camera.

The 2021 Maxus D60 comes in six colors: Competitive Orange (1.5T Elite only), Polar Ash (1.5T Elite only), Warm Argent, Warm White, Wace Red (1.5T Pro Only), and Metal Black (1.5T Pro Only). The D60 1.5T Pro is priced at P 1.148 million, while the D60 1.5T Elite is priced at P 1.258 million.

    3. Confirmed by Maxus's product planning team, it's a dry-type DCT.

    4. Does it not share its transmission with the G50, MG 6, and RX5? Don't they use wet DCTs?

    5. They said it's a dry-type DCT for the D60. They confirmed it during our press con.
