BMW Shows Off 460-Horsepower 2024 M2

Well…well…well…here’s the all-new 2024 BMW M2, and it’s got a, thank goodness, regular-sized grille. Built at the brand’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico, the M2 is a compact high-po coupe that harks back to the iconic 1973 BMW 2002 turbo.

Starting with the powertrain, the M2 features a BMW M 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo making 460 horsepower (up 90 horsepower from before) and 550 Nm of torque. Even better, the inline-6 revs all the way to 7,200 rpm with an “emotionally rich soundtrack” courtesy of its special exhaust system.

The M2 features an 8-speed automatic as standard, but as a boon to enthusiasts, BMW is making it available with a 6-speed manual as an option. The two-pedal version is slightly after—reaching 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds (4.3 with the manual), while 0 to 200 km/h is achieved in 13.5 seconds (14.3 seconds for the manual). Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, but can be raised to 285 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package.

Regardless of transmission, the 2024 M2 channels all its power through the rear wheels. It has electronically controlled dampers, variable ratio steering, six-piston front brake calipers, and an M-tuned traction control system and Active M Differential which optimizes traction and power transfer during heavy cornering.

As previously mentioned, the M2 stays away from the big grille look of the M3/M4 and sticks something closer to traditional BMW proportions. It’s 214 mm shorter than the M4 giving it denser proportions. Then, you have a large frameless kidney grille, a three-section lower air intake, and cleanly designed surfaces. Wheel sizes are 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the back.

Inside, the M2 gets specific displays on its 12.3-inch information display which can be customized using the center 14.9-inch control display. Aside from packing the BMW Operating System 8, it has sport bucket seats finished in a combination of Alcantara or Vernasca. Other options include carbon bucket seats that happen to cut 10.8 kilograms of weight.

Features of the M2 include a three-zone climate control and a slew of driver assist systems including forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and parking assistant.

Production of the all-new BMW M2 starts in April 2023.
