Hyundai Continues To Outclass Everyone Else In Design With 2023 Azera

Hyundai continues to make design strides with the introduction of yet another futuristic-looking model in the form of the all-new 2023 Azera.

The Korean carmaker’s flagship sedan (known in South Korea as the Grandeur) is marking its seventh iteration after a full model change done in 2016. The all-new Azera takes on design attributes that focus on volume and proportions.

Upfront, it has the Seamless Horizon Lamp—a design feature first seen on the Staria and Stargazer. From there, it emphasizes volume with a single character line that runs smoothly and horizontally from the headlamps to the rear combination lamps over uncluttered design panels and flush door handles. The same “Seamless Horizon” design is also applied to the rear-end giving it a slim, yet confident stance.

Inside, Hyundai worked to trim the Azera in premium, yet sustainable materials wrapped in a clean, lounge-like design. It features ambient mood lighting that spreads across the door trim to the dashboard to the upper right of the integrated display. Meanwhile, the door patterns itself is designed with a Korean aesthetic in mind. Together, these elements provide passengers a calming space.

The steering wheel itself is unique in that it features a single-spoke design. Meant as a nod back to the first-generation Grandeur, Hyundai has brought it back to optimize the different controls and switchgear. The gear knob itself has been moved to the steering wheel, freeing up the console space for storage and wireless charging.

The Azera uses materials such as real wood, aluminum, and even naturally-dyed napa leather seats quilted in a traditional Korean pattern. Other touch points, meanwhile, offer an anti-bacterial coating.

So far, Hyundai has just revealed the looks of its all-new flagship. Powertrain details will be revealed closer to its launch date, but possible options include a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, a 3.5-liter V6, and a 1.6-liter gas-hybrid.

Hyundai has confirmed that the all-new Azera will be sold in global markets. In the Philippines, the Korean automaker’s previous distributor did dabble in a range of sedans including the Sonata, the Azera, and even the Genesis sedan. It remains to be seen whether Hyundai Motor Philippines will decide to offer this for the local market once more, even on a by-order basis.

  1. Uly, add butterfly doors on it and... Great Scott! This will definitely look like a modern DeLorean.
