All-New Peugeot 3008 Due This Year, Will Be "BEV By Design"

Peugeot will be launching the next-generation 3008 SUV by the second of this year followed closely by the all-new 5008. This was revealed at the brand’s E-Lion event.

The all-new 3008 and 5008 will ride on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform which means it will be “BEV by Design.” Regardless, they will still offer it with combustion drivetrains likely for emerging markets such as the Philippines.

The E-Lion event also details Peugeot’s transition to becoming an electric-only brand in Europe by 2030. As such, the French automaker will be offering a full-electric version of every vehicle in its European line-up, and would launch five new EVs by 2025: the e-308 compact hatchback and station wagon this year, the e-408 compact crossover, and the aforementioned 3008 and 5008.

These vehicles will join their current EVs, the e-208, e-2008, the Rifter, and the Traveller.

According to Peugeot, the 3008 will be available with three full-electric drivetrains, including a dual-motor all-wheel drive version. No further details were given.

However, the automaker did release an image of a seven-vehicle EV line-up, and these were acknowledged by the brand to reflect actual models. These will be influenced by the Inception concept revealed earlier this year.

Vehicles riding on the Stellantis STLA Medium platform will have batteries sized between 87 to 104 kWh giving them a range of up to 700 kilometers.

Aside from their BEV plans, Peugeot is also launching a 48-volt mild-hybrid drivertrain this year that will allow up to 50 percent zero emissions in city driving. This system will be rolled out quickly across every passenger car model in the brand’s line-up. The system will pair either its 100 or 136 horsepower gasoline engine with a 21-kW (28 horsepower) electric motor coupled to a 6-speed dual clutch transmission.

Looking further ahead, Peugeot will overhaul its i-Cockpit human-machine interface and will include an electronic “steer-by-wire” system as early as 2026.
