Toyota Shows Off 2023 Wigo's New Face

Just a week before its global reveal, Toyota through its affiliate Malaysian Perodua, has released the first official photos of the all-new Wigo (Malaysian market Perodua) showing its front and rear clips.

Compared to the current model, the 2023 Wigo looks more aggressive with its horizontally laid out lighting elements, hexagonal grille, and angular bumpers. Meanwhile, the DRLs are positioned in a housing that resembles brake ducts. The overall effect has given it a more planted and wider stance than the current model.

The official photos clearly show off the front clearance sensors as well as the dual camera set-up that’s instrumental in giving this A-segment sedan an advanced driver assist system (Toyota Safety Sense).

At the back, the all-new Wigo goes for a cleaner appearance, dropping the taillight extension trim seen in the current model. Furthermore, there’s an interesting cut line that stretches from the bumpers and through the tailgate. The high-mount stoplight is now illuminated by LEDs, while the trunk opener has been positioned towards the middle of the hatch as opposed to being on the trailing edge.

It must be remembered that as a Perodua, the Axia gains its own unique badging and trim, however as a whole, the all-new Wigo is expected to follow this general design direction—a trend seen in the rest of the Perodua current model range: Ativa (Raize), Aruz (Rush), and Alza (Avanza).

Already revealed before, the all-new Wigo will shift to the DNGA platform—shared with the Raize, Avanza, and Veloz. It will have a carryover 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine (1KR-VE) that generates 67 horsepower and 91 Nm of torque. The big news here is the replacement of the 4-speed automatic for a CVT system. The D-CVT, with its split-gear design, should bring improvements to both fuel efficiency and performance.

The all-new Wigo (Axia) gets an interior that’s heavily influenced by the Raize. Feature-wise, it’ll have a 7-inch TFT multi-information display and a 9-inch floating style display audio system—features which first came out in the sub-compact SUV. Partial leather seats with foldable separate rear headrests are also available on the higher-end variants.

In Malaysia, the all-new Perodua Axia is reportedly starting at at MYR 36,800 (P 469,643) and tops out at MYR 49,500 (P 631,721).

The Perodua Axia will have its global reveal on February 14.

  1. A decent city economy car. But given this the PH, I expect to see these as moving roadblocks on the highway.

    1. That is because the drivers are usually noobs or female. The type who drives 40km/h on the fast lane.

    2. Naaah.. Not limited to Wigos, its just the sense of entitlement that we Pinoys drivers have, including the tricycles who thought that they must drive between 2 lanes.
