BYD is set to add another member of its plug-in DM-i family, and for those who weren’t really impressed with the Tang DM-i, this may be the answer. The Chinese carmaker has just confirmed that the eMax 9 DM-i large MPV is launching, maybe as soon as this October and has opened a registration of interest on their official website.
Like the Tang DM-i, the eMax 9 is a member of the BYD “Dynasty” series before its integration into the local BYD main range in the Philippines. Reservations have been opened which suggests that the launch might happen as early as the Electric Vehicle Summit (EV Summit) which happens October 23 to 25, 2025.
When launched, the eMax 9 is likely to go head-to-head with the likes of the Toyota Alphard and even the much-delayed GAC M8 PHEV. However, if the Tang DM-i is any indication, expect it to undercut its rivals, while paring back on the luxury accoutrements to keep the price competitive.
Based on its certification filed with the Department of Energy, the local eMax 9 will also receive the same DM-i powertrain used by the Tang DM-i. This equates to a turbocharged 1.5-liter generator which makes around 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. A single motor with 272 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque propels the eMax 9 where two battery options—a smaller 20.4-kWh unit and a larger 36.6-kWh unit—may be made available.

if its not below 2M, just get a staria
ReplyDeleteAs if you can buy a Staria with alloy rims and hybrid at 2 Million Pesos 🤣
DeleteEstimated price of this PHEV van is around 2.5 Million Pesos and up.
no reason to buy a Chinese car in that price, carnival is better
DeleteK. Eh di dun kana bilhin mo na :)
DeleteStaria Hybrid Lounge is likely gonna be priced at 3 Million Pesos or more that's why Hyundai Philippines still refuse to sell it in the Philippine market immediately.
DeleteBYD M9 PHEV can't be priced at 2 Million Pesos unless they make it bare by removing the additional airbags, leather seats and ADAS of it
Rumored to be launched by Oct. 23 during the opening salvo of the EV Summit. Simultaneous launching across all showrooms nationwide will follow on Oct. 24 & 25. Could be the last model to be launched by BYD this year but many is in the pipeline next year. BYD has more or less 64 car models to choose from to include the other 3 sub brands.
ReplyDeleteBYD keeps drowning the market with new models and owners will be left with the baggage it entails (i.e. crashing resale values of BYD cars).
DeleteWhat effect does the launching of different models have on other models? The release of this mpv should have no bearing on the sedans or suvs they are currently selling. Or are you talking about how in China they released the newer cars with the God's Eye stuff at the exact same price? Happens with almost all tech. Especially, for stuff that could be considered a generational leap.
DeleteMaybe stick to Japanese cars that keep high resale values but take years to add new features. I guess doing things that way is less likely to upset current owners because they would likely think, "well, it's an old model, about time they brought something new to it."
Geez. Why buy a vehicle for the pleasure of the person buying it from you in the future? Basic knowledge: a car is NOT AN INVESTMENT. Might as well buy something you genuinely enjoy. Walang basagan ng trip. Stick to facts. Kung sa tingin mo better ang korean vs chinese car eh di go. Bili ka dun. Suit yourself :) allow us to enjoy our chinacars hehhehee byeeee
DeleteExactly!!!
DeletePlease BYD, price this eMax 9 DM-I more for market share than for profit.
ReplyDeletePricing the Tang DM-I at P2.098M was a huge mistake even as BYD won't ever admit it.
Today's consumers are more savvy, and know that there are hundreds of thousands of unsold BYD's in China. The world market for passenger NEVs (New Elec. Vehicles) is saturated. Better for BYD to gain market share over short range profit at this time.
BYD's local competitors are fighting back. The Chery Tiggo REV LE is priced below or the same as a Sealion6, and it is better overall value than the Sealion6. I should know because I have a Sealion6 and have checked the REV LE (undercarriage included) over 2 hours on 3 occasions.
Also, BYD has a long way to go in terms of - After Sales Service - . A factor when considering any BYD, or any other Chinese brand vehicle for that matter.
-
BYD can't sell this PHEV Van at a loss like what Chery is desperately doing in the Philippines (REV LE/Fulwin 8 uses a decade old Tiggo 8 platform that they've recycled too many times).
DeleteBYD doesn't need high sales numbers that much as what they need is to earn more money and profit per unit sold.
You're making a mistake assuming it is common knowledge for the average person to know what is happening in another country's market. They're not that aware. Your algorithm on social media/YouTube might convince you otherwise but that's being tailored to your interests and the public here really doesn't care about what you care about (no offense).
DeleteKausapin mo ang mga Ayala. Byebye Honda, hello BYD <3

DeleteNote that using old platforms is not necessarily a bad decision or strategy. If that's a bad thing for you then note that BYD's 2025 Tang DM-I is still using the 2018 2nd Gen. Platform of the BYD Tang. Also, the eMAX 7's Platform is that of an ICE Van which is not only old but obsolete as BYD had to adapt an Electric Power (Transmission, AC, etc.) System into a van designed for an ICE vehicle.
The U.S. 2026 Toyota 4RUNNER is using the same basic platform it utilized when the 1st 4RUNNER came out in 1984,
which platform was also used for the Philippine Toyota Fortuner in 2005 until today.
One of the reasons vehicle manufacturers use previous or old platforms, engines, suspensions, etc. is because those worked out well, and are tried and tested, these then translate to reliability (not to mention R & D cost savings) for their latest vehicles.
On the matter of the suggestion (of Anonymous 08 Oct. 2:13pm) for BYD to prioritize market share over profit, note that for consumers (prospective buyers) it's easier and simpler to justify purchasing a fairly priced vehicle against those of competitors that are priced considerably higher (profit prioritized).
Note that Price Point is usually among the top 3 priorities of a consumer.
A fairly priced vehicle (or product) is a win-win situation as both the consumer and the product manufacturer benefit.
Your position that BYD needs to make more money and profit per unit sold would lead one to believe that you're more aligned with BYD's interests than that of a consumer. Note that that's not a bad thing per se. In fact it's a good thing if you work for or with BYD.
Have a good weekend everyone!

@Anonymous October 8, 2025 at 2:13 PM,
DeleteWhy do you say that the Tang DM-i's pricing was a big mistake of BYD Cars PH/ACMobility? The Tang DM-i doesn't compete with the cheaper Chery Tiggo ReV and Jetpur X70 i-DM. The real competitors of the Tang DM-i are Mazda's CX-60, CX-9, and CX-90. The Tang DM-i is priced way lower than its Mazda competitors while also capturing the market intended for the Fortuner, Everest, Terra, Montero Sport and MU-X.
The real competitors of Chery Tiggo ReV and Jetour X70 i-DM are BYD eMAX 7 and Innova Zenix.
And saying that BYD and other Chinese car brands have a long way to go in terms of aftersales here in the Philippines, I beg to disagree. Our aftersales experience with BYD is very good. There are 4 BYD dealer groups that provide great customer and aftersales service: ACMobility, Solar Transport, Value Sales Inc. (BYD Pampanga and BYD Dagupan Pangasinan), and Richprime Motors (BYD Balintawak). My experience with Jetour Philippines is also great. JAPI owned dealerships are highly recommended.
Most likely priced like a Kia Carnival Hybrid
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to it
Looking forward? Kala mo naman may pambili, bili ka nlang muna nang kuching vios baka ma afford mo.
DeleteWho?
DeletePeople like you can only afford a Multicab or some 25 year old Japanese junk kei truck
What's with the hostility? People can be excited about cars they're not gonna buy. Poor guy just got randomly harrased. lol
DeleteThis is the 13th car model BYD has on offer.
ReplyDeleteToo much choices and sometimes its hard to choose which model to go.. even the pricing between models are not that far off and me thinks there are more models coming up to stir their lineup.
I did not have a hard time choosing. I went for the TANG DM-i because alam ko magkano budget ko for an SUV, my design preference, needs in terms of power and speed, and syempre kilala ko sarili ko and i prioritized tech vs mga “nakasanayan “ na na mga legacy brands. Even if I myself am a Japanese, di ako blind loyalista. I did my own research and purchased yung behicle na merong kiliti factor. Easy. Wag bibili ng sasakyan with the obsession sa “resale value”. Bakit mo poporoblemahin yung kasiyahan ng tao na makikinabang sa expense mo? Kung gusto mo ng investment, bili ka ng lupa. Cars aren’t investments. Buy a vehicle na maeenjoy mo gamitin.
DeleteIf you don't know what you want maybe you shouldn't be looking for a car? More choice is always good, regardless of what brand. Needs drive decisions, if you can't decide then baka you don't need.
DeleteAs much as I’d like to refrain from leaving harsh comments, it’s just too hard to resist letting such ignorant comments from anonymous people pass. Napaka empty ng mga hirit nyo.
ReplyDeleteIt’s so easy to choose which model to buy kasi napaka clear ng pagpipilian. It’s just a matter of comprehension. Basa2x ng specs. And most imoortantly, magkano ba budget nyo? Kung kulang pambili, preno na sa pagcomment lol :))
Most importantly, para lang yan religion. Kung san ka masaya dun ka. ‘Wag mo na ipagpilit benta sakin beliefs mo.
O parang damit. Sa tingin mo bagay sayo, eh di go. Wag mo ko pilitin suotin kung ano sa tingin mo ang “fashionable”.
Stick to specs, choose something within your budget, bilhin mo kung ano gusto mo.
WALANG BASAGAN NG TRIP.
I agree with you. Let's just enjoy our cars, whether their Japanese, Korean, Chinese, American, or European brands.
DeleteFor now, it's hard to consider consider a car or a vehicle from a Brand You'll Dispose soon...
ReplyDelete2/10 acronym joke
DeleteChinese brand thats shaking the car industry hard. Let haters be. Get the car you want. Good Vibes only.
