After revealing the variants and prices of the much-awaited Toyota Ativ last week, Toyota Motor Philippines has finally uncovered the specs of its sub-compact sedan ahead of its public launch slated this Friday, October 24 to Sunday, October 26 at the BGC Amphitheater, High Street, Taguig City. You can also watch our walkaround here.
To recall, the Toyota Ativ comes in four variants at the following prices:
- Toyota Ativ 1.3 E MT – P 916,000
- Toyota Ativ 1.3 E CVT – P 980,000
- Toyota Ativ 1.5 G CVT – P 1,069,000
- Toyota Ativ 1.5 HEV CVT – P 1,198,000
Premium colors, depending on the variant, come with a P 15,000 premium. And in a break from Toyota tradition, there are two of them this time around: Scarlet SE and Platinum White Pearl. As for the rest of the color palette, here they are:
- Gray Metallic – 1.3 E MT, 1.3 E CVT, 1.5 G CVT, 1.5 HEV CVT
- Scarlet SE – 1.3 E MT, 1.3 E CVT, 1.5 G CVT, 1.5 HEV CVT
- Metal Stream Metallic – 1.3 E MT, 1.3 E CVT
- Platinum White Pearl – 1.5 G CVT, 1.5 HEV CVT
The Ativ may wear the Vios Ativ badge at the back, but it’s marketed locally only as the Ativ (think the Innova Zenix / Zenix). Riding on a new global platform, the Ativ is larger than the current Vios. It’s now 4,425 mm in length (up 5 mm), 1,740 mm in width (up 10 mm), and 1,480 mm tall (up 5 mm). Wheelbase has also stretched by 70 mm to 2,620 mm.
For exterior features, regardless of variant, it comes with LED headlights as standard, although for the rear-facing lights, only the 1.5-liter variants are lit with LEDs (with sequential turn signal lights on the 1.5 HEV). Power adjust sideview mirrors are also standard, but power folding only comes on the 1.5-liter variants. And how’s this for an interesting bit: only the 1.5 G gets 17-inch alloy wheels as both the 1.3 E and 1.5 HEV models roll on 16-inchers.
Both non-hybrid powerplants continue with the tried-and-tested 1NR-FE and 2NR-FE engines, powertrains found in the current-generation Vios.
The 1NR-FE, found in the 1.3-liter variants put out 98 horsepower and 122 Nm of torque, while the 2NR-FE produces 106 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque. The solitary manual features five forward gears, while the two-pedal versions use a CVT.
The big news is the availability of a 1.5-liter hybrid in the 1.5 HEV variant. Here, the 1.5 2NR-VEX produces 91 horsepower and 121 Nm of torque on its own, but thanks to an 80-horsepower electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, maximum output rises to 111 horsepower. The 1.5 HEV is also the only variant to have selectable drive modes as well as the convenience of an electronic parking brake with auto hold.
Inside, all Ativ models get 7-inch digital gauge cluster, automatic climate control, and a tablet-style infotainment screen poking out of the center part of the dashboard. However, the non-hybrids do have a smaller screen size (9-inch versus 10.1-inch), while rear AC vents are present in all but the 1.3 E MT. Six speakers are standard, although a USB Type C input, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android, and a wireless charger only comes on the 1.5 HEV. Leather seats are only found on the 1.5 HEV too.
In terms of safety, the Ativ comes with airbags, ABS with EBD, and Vehicle Stability Control with Hill-Start Assist Control are standard issue, but only the 1.5-liter variants get a full complement of airbags (six versus two), a 360-degree camera (versus a back-up monitor), and clearance sensors for the front and back. Meanwhile, only the 1.5 HEV has Toyota Safety Sense which bundles Pre-Collision System, Automatic High Beam, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
“The all-new Toyota Ativ is another statement of Toyota’s continued mission to bring electrified mobility within reach of more Filipinos,” shared Elijah Sue Marcial, Toyota Motor Philippines First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations. “We know choosing your first car, and an electrified model at that, can be a bold decision, so the ATIV makes it simple and easy by delivering modern HEV features, while providing peace of mind with reliability, safety, ease of ownership, and joy of use,” she added.

Vs honda city with standard 1.5L engine
ReplyDeleteSo the older Vios has more one more airbag standard than the more expensive E models. Bleak.
ReplyDeleteThe knee airbag on the driver's side is a plus on 3.5 Gen Vios. But the DNGA-based Toyotas sold here has removed that.
DeleteThe 1nr-fe and 2nr-fe engines are both 18years old.. hmmmm pwede pa ata yan..
ReplyDeleteI hope the Thai-made DNGA is a lot better built than the Indo-made DNGA products. Avanza/Veloz, Raize, even Yaris Cross have poor interior build quality and finish compared to even the locally made Vios. I hope the interior doesn't feel as tinny and rattly as the other DNGA products 🙏 I particularly am interested in the hybrid, perfect for city use.
ReplyDeleteits just same daihatsu, not a toyota quality. same test manipulation
DeleteHonda city has standard 4 airbags, ADAS, and powerful 1.5L engine. City most probably much refined and comfortable
ReplyDeleteThe City's also now more likely to be looked at by prospective buyers because of how the Ativ's prices is higher compared to the 3rd gen Vios.
DeleteHonda could also give discounts to make the difference even smaller, something Toyota can't/won't do to a newly launched model.
If Honda was feeling even more bold/hungry for market share, they could also change their policy on not allowing their cars to be used as taxis.
The specs are okay in paper. I kind of wished the airbags on 1.3 E was increased to 4—side front airbags I think is enough or side curtain, though that would mean hitting the 1M mark, at least for the CVT variants which turns off Vios / ATIV buyers.
ReplyDeleteThe headrests in the rear passenger, while it's disappointing that it's fixed on all variants, except on the center, I think TMP found that barely any passengers adjust that in real life.
But the good thing, the 1.3 E grade is getting better features such as LED headlights, automatic climate control, digital speedometer and MID, telescopic steering wheel and rear air vents, a huge improvement over the 1.3 E and XLE grades.
The G variant price is okay, considering the introduction of new features; larger wheels, new infotainment system, panoramic view monitor, auto headlights, etc...
ReplyDeleteThe E CVT variant significantly increased in price. Based on this article, the changes are LED headlights, larger wheels, smart entry system, automatic climate control, new infotainment system, TVSS, etc.. Do you think the E variant worth the increase in price??
Are this units assembled locally like the vios? Or imported?
ReplyDeleteMade in Thailand
DeleteNothing to look forward actually. Those are just the new corolla altis with vios engine of 2025 except for the hev and I'm talking about the prices btw if you could recall how the corollas are priced back in the day.
ReplyDeleteSir Uly, do you think the E-CVT of the HEV models are reliable enough to last for half a decade or 100K kilometers?
ReplyDeleteIt is super reliable. I drove a Generation Two Prius Hybrid in Australia from 2007 to 2015 and never had any trouble with either the E-CVT or the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive. It will last longer than the body of the car if the body is poorly maintained. The1.5 liter Atkinson Cycle engine in the ATIV HEV is identical to the engine that powered the Prius Hybrid that I drove. Toyota is the master of the HEV having perfected the Hybrid Synergy Drive over the time from 1997 until now. The system now uses lithium ion batteries superior to the old nickel metal hydride batteries in the Prius Hybrid that I drove. You will never need to worry about replacing a battery pack. There are Generation Two Prius Hybrids that have done more than a million Kilometers and never needed to have a battery pack replacement. The E-CVT is actually the simplest and most efficient CVT you can get. It's basically two planetary gears, one on the transmission side running off the Electric Motor Generator A, and the other off Electric Motor Generator B, which drives the wheels and handles the regenerative braking. No belts to break. It is superior to all other CVTs, both for Toyota and any other brand.
DeleteI don't think Philippines is capable of assembling hybrids yet.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the Honda City S and V variants are still better because of their ADAS and with higher engine output. Not to mention Honda's built quality is miles better than Daihatsu.
ReplyDeleteits a 0.7kWh battery for hybrid, im not sure if its enough for hybrid lol. nice try daihatsu
ReplyDeleteIf prices for Toyota (ativ) are lower than those of Honda (city), I don't think quality or specs would be a consideration for Toyota loyalists. Just look at our existing Toyota badge Daihatsu's.
ReplyDeleteToyota got those loyalists by offering quality at great prices. Take away one part of that winning formula and things will change. It may happen slowly (even very slowly) but if they go too far (especially in this economy) that loyalty might not be enough.
