Modern mobility has many definitions. Often, the term relies heavily on the technological features packed into new cars. While some of those features add comfort or deal with in-car entertainment, safety remains at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of automotive technology. Not to mention new car buyers are putting safety as a top priority for choosing a new car.
Mazda is one of the few brands that focuses on safety, in the most Mazda way possible. They go about it subtly and with class, without the need to shout, let the cars speak for themselves. As a brand, it has always done things its own way, focusing on the connection between man and machine, and making cars that are designed around real-world behaviors and conditions especially when it comes to safety.
When it comes to true safety standards, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) doesn’t play around; it is one of the biggest independent testing bodies that finds out just how safe each car is. The IIHS has 2 distinctions for the top performers: Top Safety Pick (TSP) and Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+). Since 2008, Mazda has been awarded 99 TSP awards, and 73 of those were qualified as TSP+ models. 2026 marks another milestone year for Mazda’s safety leadership, as the IIHS has just awarded it an additional 8 TSP+ awards. This makes Mazda the most awarded brand for the year, and gives them a hat trick of 3 consecutive years as the industry leader in safety.
IIHS’s testing protocols are some of the most rigorous in the world, and for 2026, changes were applied to the testing of rear seat passenger protection, and pedestrian crash prevention. Each model had to pass the new testing criteria to earn the coveted TSP+ award recognition. New models are equipped with safety systems such as blind spot monitoring (BSM), and lane departure warning (LDW). These are some of the systems designed to keep a watchful eye, acting as an extra pair of hands and eyes to aid the driver. Each model had to pass the new testing criteria to earn the coveted TSP+ award recognition.
Apart from the IIHS, Consumer Reports (CR) has also gone on to recognize Mazda’s excellence for safety. In its 2026 testing, CR has awarded the brand as the first ever #1 safest new car brand. This "Safety Verdict" is based on a holistic review of crashworthiness, emergency handling, and the effectiveness of standard crash-prevention technologies.
Mazda’s global recognition is another reaffirmation that they are in tune with what the market wants and needs. In the Philippines, the roads and driving conditions remain unpredictable, we see new cars and drivers every year, plus the worsening road conditions, are just some of the safety hazards on our roads and highways. Mazda’s safety systems and features are the perfect guide to every journey, regardless of where you go in the Philippines. Even better is that Mazda’s safety philosophy prides itself on working in the background and are simple and easy to use.
Mazda’s recent accolades prove that safety isn’t just a feature for them, its a core philosophy for the brand. Afterall, premium mobility means peace of mind, so having and driving the safest cars in the world is the biggest flex of them all.
