With Honda conserving cash thanks to the sudden withdrawal of its all-electric ambitions, the Japanese carmaker has forewarned that its vehicles will have longer product cycles between updates. This has affected the City which has undergone its second major refresh.
Unveiled in India, the 2027 City takes on the “Shaper” concept. It gains a new front-end that’s reminiscent of the Prelude in some ways. This is characterized by new standard LED headlights connected visually by a lightbar, a larger honeycomb grille, and the “H” badge (not the new one) moved to the top portion of the bumper. At the back, it gets clear-type taillights along with reworked bumpers. It’s all finished out by new “Aero Blade” alloy wheels.
The City Hatchback has also been updated with the new front fascia in Thailand.
Inside, the new City gets a larger infotainment screen measuring 10.1 inches and ambient lighting spanning the dashboard, infotainment, footwell, and console. Higher grades also receive a new sunroof and the option of Ivory-colored leather seats with ventilated front seats. Google is now built into the infotainment along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a wireless charger.
In terms of powertrain, the City retains its powertrains for this update. For the Indian market, it’s offered with the normally aspirated 1.5-liter i-VTEC with 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque mated to a CVT. Meanwhile, there’s also a two-motor e:HEV hybrid which is mated to an e-CVT. This one has 98 horsepower coming from the internal combustion engine and 109 horsepower from the electric motor (total output 126 horsepower). Torque reaches up to 253 Nm from zero rpm. For Thailand, it will also be available with a 1.0-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine making 122 horsepower and 173 Nm of torque.
Of course, like the current City, the 2027 City gets Honda Sensing as standard along with a full set of airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, LaneWatch and tire pressure monitoring. For this update, however, it adds a 360-degree camera as well.

Love the new front end. The new bumper makes the front overhang seem a little bit shorter. Just a shame that the larger infotainment screen has been hastily inserted in the dash. Would have been better if the dash of the Elevate or something similar to it had been grafted in here instead.
ReplyDeleteI like the fluorescent lamp LED design of the front grille. It looks futuristic. People, we really are in the future!
ReplyDeleteLooks nice. The front looks like it was ripped off an Elantra
ReplyDeleteThe rear taillight units are a missed opportunity. They could have reworked the brake lights into a new light bar to complement the new facelifted front.
ReplyDeletewith their renewed push for hybrids, I'm hoping that they'll finally bring in the city hybrid.
ReplyDeleteThank u china cars for schooling honda to proper car design. The new city is so chinesey now specially the front end..
ReplyDeleteChinese cars are notorious for copying good designs and making them ugly. The new city front end is normal why relate it to china design. Even today so many chinese cars are copies of others.
