2027 Hyundai Staria Launches With Hybrid Power, Advanced Connectivity. Yours Starting At P 1.999M (w/ Specs)

Hyundai Motor Philippines launches the refreshed Staria. With a starting price of P 1.999-million, it now sports a hybrid powertrain as well as elevated comfort and connectivity features.

Distinguished by its futuristic design, the new Staria Hybrid has been updated with new 18-inch alloy wheels, a revamped front grille, and distinctive cube projection LED headlamps.

More importantly, under the hood, the 2027 Staria now sports a 1.6-liter turbo hybrid engine with a 1.48-kWh battery. Combined, it makes 245 horsepower (180 horsepower from the combustion engine and 73 horsepower from the electric motor) and a torque of 367 Nm (265 Nm from the gasoline engine). The electric motor is mounted in line to a 6-speed automatic with cruise control allowing it to move on electric power alone at varying speeds, including highway cruising. It also helps it achieve a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 17.7 km/L.

Also, thanks to its HEV powertrain, the Staria now gains e-Motion Drive which bundles two suites of tech: e-Comfort Drive and e-Dynamic Drive. The former has e-Ride which minimizes vehicle shake when crossing speed bumps by controlling the motor further improving its comfort and stability. The latter has e-Handling which controls drive torque to maintain optimal traction during turns, e-EHA which maximizes evasion performance, and e-Traction which enhances vehicle grip and cornering stability.

The 2.2-liter Smartstream Diesel is carried over unchanged in the Staria Cargo variant.

Elsewhere, the refreshed Staria, in the Premium and Premium Plus variant, is the first Hyundai model to be equipped with Bluelink—Hyundai’s advanced Connected Car Service platform. The Bluelink system supports online voice recognition, supporting users to send and receive text messages while keeping their focus on the road. Using a smartphone app, it also keeps owners informed of their vehicle status, diagnostics, and health reports, while also enabling remote control of climate settings, door locks, horn, and lights.

Bluelink also unlocks Hyundai Live Services wherein owners can access real-time traffic and weather updates directly via the infotainment system without the need to tether a smartphone. Data is refreshed every two minutes.

Connected car services aside, the new Staria Hybrid receives a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display for a more intuitive interface for entertainment and navigation. A wireless charging pad at the front and USB Type C charging ports at the front and back rows improve occupant connectivity. A 12-speaker Bose sound system is also available for the Premium and Premium Plus variant.

Other thoughtful features inclusive a steering column-mounted Shift-by-Wire system, power seats with heated and ventilated functions, and a dual power and tilt sunroof.

Built to adopt to Filipinos varying lifestyles and travel needs, the new Staria comes in a 9-seater variant in both a three- and four-row configuration as well as a 7-seater variant. The 7-seater variant has extended seat rails allowing for added flexibility between cargo and people.

As for safety, the Staria premium variants come equipped with Hyundai SmartSense. These include new features such as the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Side Parking Distance Warning. This is supported by a set of six airbags for most variants as well as anti-lock brakes and hill start assist control.

“The Staria is one of the most iconic nameplates in our current lineup, completing our hybrid range while carrying a legacy Filipinos trust. Building on the Starex’s role in family life, we are proud to be launching the Staria Hybrid which brings a more connected, comfortable experience for modern and practical Filipino families.” said Mr. Jiho Son, Hyundai Motor Philippines President.

The new Staria Hybrid is available in three colors: Creamy White, Abyss Black Pearl, and Shimmering Silver Metallic. The GL and GLS variants come with an Obsidian Black interior, while the Premium comes in Anthracite Brown and the Premium Plus in Bordeaux Brown.

The Staria comes with a 5-year or 200,000-kilometer bumper-to-bumper warranty and an 8-year or 160,000-kilometer high-voltage battery warranty in the following variants and prices:

      At first glance perhaps.

However, with only a 1.4Kw battery which cannot power an electrical motor that a usual sized HEV Crossover with an 1.8+kw can, and a only a 1.6L Turbocharged engine to do most
of the work, that combination indicates the possibility of inadequate Torque and HP as well as a very stressed ICE.

A small turbocharged engine hauling a minivan will surely have durability and reliability issues. As usual such engine durability and reliability issues are likely to come out once the warranty expires.

Surely, coupling the hybrid electric drive with the torquey and reliable 2.2 diesel engine of Hyundai/Kia would have provided
better overall torgue, fuel economy , and durability.

    2. lol you havent even drove it. that thing already is good enough, 245ps 367Nm. expecting 400hp on this philippine road? so easy to talk with figures without experience

No need to bother driving it, the specifications they provided are clear.

Experience on driving that vehicle is a waste of my time, or for anyone who understands engines, electric motors, and physics.

All Turbocharged engines are more stressed than N/A engines. In this case a 1.4Kw battery will not be enough to power an adequate electric motor for a heavy minivan.

That tiny 1.6T ICE will do most of the heavy lifting.

I call it the way I see it. I'm not forcing anyone to agree with what I believe to be inadequate ICE and combined electric power specifications for the weight of that minivan.

Good luck to all those who will buy it.

  3. i know a few people with this van and a few who onws zenix. the starex is usually driver driven while zenix is driven by the owner. may be similarly priced but might be oversized for the purpose. really depends on the needs of a family

  4. Hyundai is brute-forcing hybrid powertrains in markets that are not ready for it. They already make several hybrid models and those should already support the scale needed for production. The Staria should have stayed diesel. I hope many takers will embrace the new engine but personally, I'm not ready to cross the bridge from diesel to hybrid for pickups, MPVs and vans.

    1. id rather go for hybrid without coding than diesel that gets worse with high maintenance on the long run

    2. You may need to rethink, hybrid are more expensive to run and maintain in the long run. The 1.8kw battery will sure degrade within a year or two due to our traffic. Remember it has certain life cycle and it keeps on getting depleted and charge, it brings down the State of Health and eventually need replacement sooner than expected. You still nee to follow the basic PMS which is arm and leg and still you are hostage with fuel price increase. I prefer diesel its simpler and much much less headache to manage. think about it!

    3. People like you forget that Toyota has hybrids with the exact same kind of setup that last as long as non hybrid cars. Is it just because it's a Toyota? I don't think so. Philippine traffic? Accelerating and braking slowly is not a problem for a battery like that. Stick to diesel since it'syour preference but you're the one giving yourself a headache by complicating things with wrong info.

  5. For Starias from P2M to P2.39M there's no Hyundai SmartSense. The MG G50 PHEV does not have an ADAS.

It's quite possible that not a few buyers will consider an MG G50 PHEV at P1.4M. Yes the MG is Chinese and the Staria is Korean, but at 30% less, and the advantage of the PHEV over a HEV (assuming one can charge at their residence ) teh G50 PHEV is quite compelling.

Competition is always good for the consumer.

  6. The Zenix will still outsell this even if the Staria seems value for money…. i’m also not a fan of a turbo engine for a people hauler.
