Review: 2025 Kia Sorento Turbo Hybrid SX+ AWD
In 2022, Kia wanted you to think that the Sorento was already ready to play with the big boys of the SUV world—the arena where the likes of the Ford Explorer and Mazda CX-9 resided. Alas, its premium price point vis-Ã -vis its features didn’t really push the envelop far enough to warrant serious consideration. Fast forward to 2025, and here comes the refreshed model. Still priced within the same ballpark (it’s up around P 300,000), it gets a slew of not just aesthetic enhancements, but more importantly, higher specs and an electrified powertrain as well. With that, can the Sorento Turbo Hybrid now charm would be buyers?

2025 Lexus TX 500h F Sport Handling Offers Three Rows Of Luxury And Zero Compromises
Lexus has made a name for itself when it comes to providing three-row luxury in the Philippines. Although they started with solid sedan offerings like the Lexus IS, ES, and LS, their sales really rocketed with the introduction of their SUV line-up, and of course, the Lexus LM. Now, as they have the widest breadth of three-row luxury offerings, it begs the question: is there room for yet another one?

Review: 2025 Honda CR-V VX Turbo
The Honda CR-V finds itself in a unique situation. Using a single nameplate, it does battle on multiple fronts and that’s very clear when you consider its price range. The P 490,000 gap between the entry-level V Turbo and the top-of-the-line RS e:HEV is sizeable—bigger than the Mazda CX-5’s P 480,000 difference between its 2.0 Sport and 2.5 AWD Turbo. What’s more, unlike in Mazda’s case, where the country of origin between grades and features vary greatly, the CR-V is basically the same SUV save for a couple of lines on the spec sheet. This begs the question: does it justify its premium price tag (in the case of the hybrid) or do the non-hybrids offer the best value?

Review: 2025 Hyundai Tucson 1.6T HEV GLS
When Hyundai Motor Philippines brought in the fourth-generation Tucson in 2023, there were high hopes for the compact SUV; after all, besides the Starex and Santa Fe, it’s managed to carve a name for itself in the Filipino car buyer psyche. Unfortunately, it was let down by a spec sheet that seemed to cater more to reducing its price tag rather than giving buyers the features that they want. Fast forward to 2024, and it’s finally time for some course correction. The refreshed Tucson is here and it now packs much more equipment than ever. It also gains a hybrid powertrain which, at, P 2,290,000 is pricey but ultimately worth every peso.

Review: 2024 Mazda CX-5 AWD Sport
It’s hard to believe but the current second-generation Mazda CX-5 has been around for roughly eight years now. While it’s managed to outlast some relationships, it was birthed in a completely different world back then—electrification wasn’t a buzz word and no one took Chinese car brands seriously. Fast forward to today and you’ve got everyone and their uncle talking about hybrids (or EVs) and the Chinese have carved a solid five percent share of sales. It’s this sort of world the 2024 CX-5 finds itself in and one where, in some regard, it’s playing catch up.

Review: 2024 Mazda3 2.0 HEV Fastback
Launched in the Philippines in 2019, the Mazda3 is a hold out in a world overfilled with crossovers and SUVs. The carmaker could have simply thrown in the towel and concentrated their efforts on the CX-30—the Mazda3’s crossover sibling. However, realizing that there are a few who remain dedicated and loyal to sporty handling, lower riding passenger cars, they’ve instead re-oriented it make it the best iteration of the Mazda3 yet.

Review: 2024 BYD Atto 3 Premium
There’s a certain level of expectation when it comes to EVs, particularly on the subjects of price and tech. Thanks largely to the fact that brands that offer all-electric mobility come from either the luxury or premium spaces, EVs are expected to: one, look like spaceships and two, priced like one too. But that’s not the case with China’s BYD. With the Atto 3, they’ve come up with an EV that’s managed to reach price parity with a similarly-priced compact SUV. Of course, this begs the question: is it any good?

Review: 2024 Honda CR-V RS e:HEV
Throughout its six generations, the Honda CR-V has never been afraid to experiment. From offering an underfloor picnic table in the first-generation model, cramming ten seats in the second-generation model, to a diesel engine and seven seats in the fifth-generation model, this compact SUV is designed as if it’s got a feel of the market’s pulse as a whole. With the sixth-generation model, Honda has done it again with the introduction of two things: the RS badge and a strong hybrid system called the e:HEV.

Review: 2024 GWM Haval H6 HEV Supreme
Chinese carmakers, pay attention. This is your gold standard. The past five years or so, we’ve seen brands sprout up like mushrooms all from the Middle Kingdom. And like fungi that thrive in dark, damp places, none of them deserve to be in the limelight. They’d be great for a couple of days or so, but something always throws you off. Until now. The GWM Haval H6 shows us that when they get their act together, they could make pretty compelling cars.
