Lexus Brings Back The LFA As A High-Performance EV Sportscar

The Lexus Sports Concept gets a proper name as it inches closer towards production. Now known as the Lexus LFA Concept, it was shown alongside the stunning Toyota GR GT and GR GT3. The thing is, the LFA stays a concept for now, but eventually it’ll hit showrooms as a high-performance battery electric vehicle.

Lexus hasn’t said much in way of technical details, but it does promise to be high-performance. The LFA could be a prime candidate for the solid state battery that Toyota’s been working on for quite some time.

To recall, Toyota is aiming to launch its own solid state battery sometime in 2027-2028—perfect timing for the LFA’s eventual launch. It promises increased energy density, faster charging, longer range, and a 40-year lifespan.

Riding on the same platform as the GR GT and GT GT3, the LFA Concept shares its rigid aluminum structure and 2,725 mm wheelbase. That said, the Lexus is smaller by 130 mm (4,690 mm), 40 mm wider (2,040), while keeping the same 1,195 mm height.

Like the GR GT and GR GT3, the LFA Concept pursues aerodynamic performance first with styling elements added after.

The interior, first shown at the Japan Mobility Show this year, provides an immersive cockpit with an ideal driving position. It has a yoke-style steering wheel that negates the need to use hand-over-hand motions, while the large display is surrounded by proper switchgear. The controls extend to the rotary gear selector to the right of the column, while paddle-like buttons are for ‘F-Mode’ and ‘Custom’ enable quick cycling of presumably drive modes. The ability to set boost and braking maps also indicate a decent amount of configurability for the powertrain.
