Geely shuffled its feet for most of 2025. After they had gained official control of operations in the Philippines, only one all-new car was introduced, (they did refresh the Coolray, Emgrand, and Okavango) and there wasn’t much activity with the cars aside from the usual mall displays. All that is about to change.
First to arrive will be the new Geely Starship 7 (also known as the EX5 EM-i) compact crossover at Q1 2026. It’s a plug-in hybrid that will go head-to-head against the BYD Sealion 6 and the Ford Territory. Range is slated to be better at up to 1,400 kilometers combined depending on the battery pack as Geely promises a “class-leading” hybrid system.
Next is a smaller EV in the Geely EX2. This is a small hatchback EV that is poised to go against the Seagull and Dolphin. Power ranges from 78 to 114 horsepower, depending on the trim, and is also available with Level 2 Advanced Driving Assist System. What’s unique here is the placement of the electric motor at the rear axle, instead of the usual front. The “Xingyuan” as it is called in China, is expected in Q2 2026.
Then, after much consideration, Geely will finally bring in the Monjaro midsize SUV to the Philippines in the third quarter. They promise it will have a luxurious cabin, superior handling, leading range, and five-star safety suite. Making it distinct from the Okavango is the Monjaro’s plug-in hybrid powertrain that is rated to go around 1,200 kilometers in one full tank and charge.
In the fourth quarter, Geely is introducing a pair of sedans that will compete against the heavy weights in the segment. First is the Geely version of the Proton Saga, currently codenamed “AMA01.” Proton is a Malaysian automaker that has a technical partnership with Geely. This is why the Proton Saga is using the Advanced Modular Architecture, hence why they can bring it in the country. It will be an ICE model that will compete against the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and Toyota Vios.
The second sedan that they’ll introduce in Q4 is the electrified version of the Emgrand. It will go against the likes of the BYD Seal 5 DM-i and the recently-launched Toyota Ativ.
With these new models, Geely is projecting to hit retail sales of more than 7,000 vehicles putting them within the Top 10 best-selling automotive brands, and the second among Chinese brands.
And coinciding with their product blitz, Geely is also expanding their dealership network to more than 40 by the end of 2026. Some of those planned include Laoag, Caloocan, North EDSA, BGC, Pasay City, Las Pinas City, Isabela, Cainta, Naga, Calamba, Sto. Tomas Batangas, Batangas City, Dumaguete, Davao, and General Santos.

Proton Saga with Geely badges in it is gonna compete directly at the Mirage G4,MG5 and ancient Vios..
ReplyDeleteGeely EX5 PHEV and Geely EX2 EV are gonna popular in the Philippine market that is if their priced right.
Good to see more new Geely car dealerships opening thanks to ANC Group,Gateway and other companies.
Nice, Geely engineering quality miles better than byd.
ReplyDeleteThey had a dealer in Dumaguete before under Gateway, then it became an MG dealer. I wonder where the new dealer will be?
ReplyDeleteJust like in china geely ph will target byd here head to head. Like in china, Head to head Specs and quality wise geely will crushed byd's offering here.
ReplyDeleteAnd just like in China, traditional car makers (Japanese, US, and EU) will suffer due to the faster paced improvements from those companies. You can't have one happen without the other following right after.
DeleteLineup looks really promising, kaso a little late nga lang since andami na bumili ng BYD and hybrids from other manufacturers
ReplyDeleteStarship7 and Monjaro are really cool and maybe will be adopted quickly by consumers
Geely and Proton will produce and sell more affordable vehicles (hatchback, small SUV and MPV) using the the AMA Platform used in in the Proton/Geely Saga.
ReplyDeleteAMA platform will eventually become like DNGA platform of Toyota and Daihatsu as part of Geely's plan to continue chasing more sales numbers in SEA region.
Geely used to be the first Chinese automaker in the Philippines that caught the attention of a lot of customers to buy their cars especially with the Coolray and Okavango. Since then, seems like they've lost their footing.
ReplyDeleteI know Geely owns Proton 49.9% of Proton.
ReplyDeleteGeely proton saga is very potential competitor in small sedan like toyota vios and Mitsubishi mirage, but coming in 4 quarter of 2026 is bad decision, they should introduced it in the market as soon as possible, otherwise will be fill up by other brands.
ReplyDeleteWhile being in early is always better, people aren't going to stop buying cars.
DeleteThe sequence of cars they bringing in here, look like they are more competing the Chinese cars rather than Japanese cars. Also its emgrand Ev is more focus against byd seal 5 than Japanese one, Only geely saga marque look more competing Japanese cars but will be the last one to bring it in 2026, Too bad, Chinese cars against Chinese cars. Unlike Japanese they are united against Chinese cars.

What does this even mean? Every car competes with every other car in their segment. This statement is an ungrounded understanding of the market.
Geely must not greedy, as we see last year they bring in geely Ex5 at 1.799M price tags far more expensive than Byd sealion 6. They are now have few dealership as they still thought they are on the top Chinese car brand here. Improve your brand and reputation first with good pricing and aftersale services.
