AutoPerformance Premium Parts, an official distributor of Brembo brakes in the Philippines, is among one of the first group of visitors to visit the brake specialist’s Asian expansion.
Brembo chose Asia as the site of its newest factory, dedicated to brake pads, because of the region’s diverse mix of products from legacy carmakers and upstart challengers. Officially inaugurated in 2023, the Brembo-BRGP plant—a 50/50 joint-venture with Chinese company Gold Phoenix—is in Jinan, China, a major manufacturing and logistics hub in Northeast China.
AutoPerformance’s visit started at Brembo’s new logistics hub in the port city of Qingdao. Consisting of two massive warehouses, totaling 17,000 square meters, it houses the full range of Brembo aftermarket products all ready to be shipped internationally. There’s even a brake disc laboratory onsite to ensure the quality, performance, and safety of Brembo brakes.
Meanwhile, the Brembo-BRGP plant is even more impressive. The plant makes over 6,000 different brake pad numbers, and produces nearly 10 million of them annually. With a current defect rate of under 10 pieces for every million, it is well below Toyota’s set parts supplier threshold of 100 PPM (parts per million).
This facility manufactures Brembo’s premium replacement brake pads for most popular makes and models from Japanese, Korean, American, and European cars, with a selection of Chinese cars coming soon as well. Currently, the range, which includes both the standard low-metallic, ceramic, and Xtra performance line, are shipped globally to the Americas, Europe, Australia, Middle East, and of course, the Philippines.
Production at the Brembo-BRGP plant starts with the process of raw materials, kept in a controlled environment. These materials are then combined in specific ratios, compressed, cured, and bonded to metal backing plates in an automated process. The backing plate is then sprayed with a protective layer of paint, and all the hardware and clips are attached. The finished brake pads are then packed and sealed with an anti-tamper sticker to guarantee product authenticity. Like the warehouse, the factory also has an inhouse laboratory, where the pads are tested for performance, safety, and noise levels.
When these Brembo brake pads do arrive in the Philippines, they’re made available to over 100 AutoPerformance authorized dealers nationwide as well as through AutoPerformance PH’s official stores on Lazada and Shopee.
