Why You Lie to Us, Mazda?

Don’t let the name fool you. Despite being called the “Carbon Edition” models, these new special edition CX-5, CX-9, and Mazda6 don’t even have an ounce of the stuff.

Instead, each Carbon Edition model is painted exclusively in Polymetal Gray (this gives us a glimpse of how it looks like on the Mazda6 and CX-9 for the first time though) and come with high-gloss black wheels and side mirrors (maybe that’s where the name comes from).

Inside, the misleadingly-labeled cars will have red leather seats and black honeycomb interior trimming to “help stir emotions and invoke inspiration” (Mazda’s words, not ours). Sadly, Mazda hasn’t even provided a look of the revised interior, so we’ll have to take their word for it.

Anyway, aside from the new paint job and interior trimming, the rest of the car remains the same. This means all three boast of features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Bose sound system, and the i-Activsense safety features.

The Carbon Edition is exclusive for the North American market, though it won’t be surprising to see Polymetal Gray as an available color palette in 2021 versions of the Mazda6, CX-5, and CX-9.

  1. Would not get a Mazda car in the Philippines. Great car, shoddy service.

    1. I find it's dealer dependent. I'm very happy with Mazda Makati's service.

    2. Yes, dealer dependent. Sadly, in Cebu you can't choose there's only one. And it sucks. Mazda Japan should investigate the bad business practice of this dealership. They have the idea to milk their customers in repair and maintenance. It was so gross, it left a bad and permanent taste in my mouth. They tried to trick me in replacing the injection pump of my 2 yr old BT 50 and not only that, they said the roller, I'm not sure if that's the name, the one where the belt is anchored so it could spin, of the timing belt needs to be replaced too. Costing at least 200++ as per their estimate. Can you believe that? In effect, degrading the reliability of their own brand. That's a two year old pick-up I reminded them. Seeing that I'm not that gullible, they finally fixed it at a cost of 4,000+. Letting out a limp attempt to scare me saying the fix could be just temporary and the problem could easily come back. I know they're lying just to wiggle themselves out of a tricky situation they put themselves in. It's been 5 yrs since that lame attempt to swindle me, my pick up is still doing fine. And I never brought my Mazda to it's casa again.

  2. Was this prior to the Berjaya takeover or after? I have a late model Mazda and the dealer service was okay.

    1. It shouldn't matter. The dealership is owned by an independent.

  3. I had a CX-5 exclusively serviced at Mazda Greenhills from 2016 to 2017. Worst ever service among the four Japanese brands I've tried for the past 30 years.

  4. My experience with Mazda Makati Branch is already unbearable imagine my car CX3 got into an accident in October 2019 and up to now it is still with them hindi parin nila natatapos. To think the damage is not actually a major one. Pag nag ffollow up kami lagi mag rereturn call nalang daw pero hindi naman nila kami tatawagan. This is not actually the first one, there had been two accidents before and it took almost 6 months each to finished the repair. Imagine I bought the car 2017 and the car almost spent its whole life sa casa. There was an issue also about cracked windshield that the inhouse insurance did not cover dahil daw napaso na ang insurance but the money for the new insurance was already endorsed to Mazda and yet hindi parin nila inacknowledge na sila ang may fault. I paid 40k for that windshield. Kaya next time dina ako bibili ng Mazda nunka
