Nissan is giving its all-new 2022 Pathfinder a much more rugged look. Tapping into the OG Pathfinder’s ruggedness is a nod to its heritage says the carmaker, but it also gives customers what they’ve been longing for: an SUV that conveys strength and capability. Regardless, comfort, connectivity, and safety won’t take a back seat.
New from the ground up, the Pathfinder takes on a wider stance with its blister fenders and a markedly shorter overhang. Together with the larger tires, it conveys size. Of course, distinctive Nissan design features such as the V-motion grille remain, while now adopting C-shaped LED headlights and a floating roofline. At the back, the “boxed out” tailgate—seen in the first Pathfinder—returns but now includes an oversized chrome emblem that spells PATHFINDER.
At the heart of the 2022 Pathfinder is a 3.5-liter direct-injected V6 engine with 284 horsepower and 351 Nm of torque. More importantly, Nissan has dropped its Xtronic CVT in favor of a new 9-speed automatic with a 7-position Drive and Terrain Mode Selector.
Enhancing its handling, the Pathfinder now sports a dual-pinion EPS system combined with 255-mm wide tires. Stability and confidence is bolstered by Pathfinder's front strut and rear independent multi-link suspension design with front and rear stabilizer bars and 4-wheel disc brake system.
Inside, the Pathfinder is available with a 12.3-inch digital dashboard along with a 10.8-inch heads-up display. Towards the center, a 9-inch touchscreen serves as the access point to the infotainment system. Interlocking side vents and door finishers provide a solid structural appearance, and with the use of a new electronic shifter, the new “bridge” front center console allows extra storage space underneath.
The 2022 Pathfinder has an 8-seater capacity as standard, but buyers can opt for a second-row captain’s seats with a no-tools-required removable center console.
Interior quietness has been greatly improved, with acoustic laminated front glass, thicker 2nd row glass, increased door and floor isolation, and a 60 percent increase in engine noise absorption.
Available interior features include a 10-way power driver's seat, climate controlled front seats, tri-zone automatic temperature control with second row climate control, and heated rear seats.
Advanced technology and safety features include Nissan Connect with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bose audio system with 13 speakers, an Intelligent Around View Monitor, and even ProPILOT Assist which combines steering assist with active cruise control.
The 2022 Pathfinder will be available in the U.S. starting June 2021. There’s no news whether Nissan Philippines will get the Pathfinder for the local market, although some Asia-Pacific markets such as Australia might be getting it at a later date.
