Jeep's Fully-Electric 2024 Avenger SUV Is Meant For The Urban Jungle

After showing off its design a couple of months back, Jeep has finally pulled the wraps off its first-ever fully electric vehicle ever: the Jeep Avenger. Spearheading Jeep’s move towards terrain capable EVs, the Avenger combines capability, style, functionality, and technology into one compact package.

“Right-sized” for Europe, the Avenger fights in the B-segment SUV slotting below the Renegade (at 4.08 meters long, it’s 16 centimeters shorter than the Renegade). Yet, it offers the best ground clearance in its class (200 mm) as well as outstanding approach (20 degrees), breakover (20 degrees), and departure (32 degrees) angles.

The Avenger offers a modern interpretation of Jeep’s iconic 7-slot grille. The bent-over grille is done for functional efficiency, protecting the headlamps in case of an impact. Despite its small size, it has enhanced presence with its bulging fenders, large 18-inch alloy wheels, and a floating C-pillar. At the back, it also has Jeep’s signature X fuel can rear lights.

Being an urban runabout, Jeep has figured to equip the Avenger with design details that reduce the costs associated with low-speed impacts. With 70 percent of road crashes happening at those speeds, this EV is equipped with skid plates, 360-degree cladding, and encased protected headlamps. Overall, this should reduce potential accident costs by around 1,000 Euros (P 54,000).

Under the hood resides a new electric propulsion system. The 400-volt system is good for 156 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. Power is stored via a 54-kWh battery delivering up to 550 kilometers of range. The ultra-compact battery, stored under the front and rear seats has been tested for over 2 million kilometers and is protected by the Avenger’s high ground clearance and underbody skid plates.

Inside, the Avenger has a lean dashboard inspired by the functional Wrangler. The horizontal beam includes all the vents, ambient lighting, and even the 10.25-inch infotainment screen. The lower side of the dashboard has a wide-open storage shell, hammering down the point of it having 34 liters of front storage—more than double the average of the segment.

For safety, it boasts Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities thanks to its adaptive cruise control with lane centering and traffic jam assist. It also comes with automatic emergency braking, drowsy driver alert, blind spot monitoring, and 360-degree parking sensors with active park assist.

Jeep says they see the Avenger becoming their best-selling vehicle in Europe by 2024. Sales there start in January 2023.
