GAC Motor PH Reports Strong Q1 2023 Sales

At the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), GAC Motor gave its first quarter report card and the results are encouraging. The brand, now distributed by Astara, recorded strong sales thanks to the positive feedback surrounding its core models.

For the first three months of the year, GAC Motor reported that its sales grew 228 percent compared to the same period last year making it a new record for the brand (editor’s note: Astara Philippines didn’t specify how many units they sold, so when they mean ‘record,’ it could either mean percentage growth or actual unit sold. ANYWAY.). The reason for the growth is down to the high demand for its Empow sport sedan as well as the GS8, GS4, and GN6.

“We continue to make headway with our plans since taking over the brand, driven by our line-up of vehicles that offer great value for money to our Filipino customers,” said Jun Cajayon, Brand Head of GAC Motor, Astara Philippines. “We at Astara are proud to work with GAC Motor in bringing these exceptional cars renowned for their modern design, fine craftsmanship, superior build quality, and cutting-edge technology. We remain fully committed to reach more customers nationwide together with our growing dealer family,” he added.

Cajayon said this during the Philippine market launch of the first-ever GAC Emkoo, their brand-new tech-laden compact SUV.

And speaking of dealers, GAC Motor has reported that they are closer to their planned 20 dealer appointments by the end of 2023. So far, the Chinese brand has fully operational dealerships located in Alabang, Bacoor, Davao, Pampanga, Pasig, and Tarlac. They will be joined by Makati, Cainta, Quezon Avenue, Manila Bay, E. Rodriguez Sr., Batangas, Lipa City, Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, and Butuan by mid-year.

During the launch of the Empow and all-new GS8 last January, Astara Philippines managing director Jorge Belzunce says he expects GAC Motor’s sales to grow seven-fold in 2023. Based on that statement, this would put Cajayon’s target at around 2,000 units. Do you think these targets are achievable?

  3. As GAC increased their sales they are also increasing their prices. It's a mistake strategy. As of now Of all Chinese car brands, the JETOUR Cars will be the super star in the market with 7Seater X70 as their best seller the Lambo look Dashing and the very In demand EV ice Cream.

    1. Jetour & Chery has the worst reliability in the latest China Car quality survey. So buyer beware.
