Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino will merge and form a new holding company which will start operations by April 2026.
The announcement was made at a joint press conference by Daimler Truck AG, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, Hino Motors, and Toyota Motor Corporation.
The merger between Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino will be one of equals and as such the commercial vehicle brands will cooperate in the areas of commercial vehicle development, procurement, and production.
Daimler Truck and Toyota will each aim to own 25 percent of the listed holding company of the integrated Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino.
The new holding company plans to own 100 percent of Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino and will be headquartered in Tokyo. The company CEO will be current Mitsubishi Fuso CEO Karl Deppen who will lead over 40,000 employees.
Details on the scope and nature of the collaboration, including the name of the new holding company, are intended to be announced over the coming months.
The integration of Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino aims to improve business efficiency in areas such as development, procurement, and production. They expect to significantly enhance the competitiveness of Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturers and strengthen the foundation of the automotive industry both in Japan and Asia.
