Ahead of its anticipated global launch later this month, Nissan has begun releasing information about the all-new 2026 Nissan Leaf.
The third-generation of the “Leading, Environmentally-friendly, Affordable Family vehicle,” it was once considered as the pioneer in mass-market battery electric vehicles. Alas, it’s fallen behind drastically; something that Nissan wants to make up ground on.
Nissan considers the Leaf as one of its “heartbeat models,” signifying its importance to the brand. It represents the company’s ethos, “do what others don't dare to do” since it’s supposed to appeal not just to EV intenders, but to those who’re looking for an alternative to a traditional combustion engine vehicle.
The all-new Leaf continues with that trend. The sleek and bold looks give a co-efficient of drag of just 0.25. While not record breaking, it is the slipperiest vehicle Nissan has ever produced. Designers and engineers worked hard to achieve this—resorting to flush door handles, active grille shutters, a flat underfloor, a fastback silhouette with a rear liftback, and even optimized wheel designs up to 19 inches in diameter.
Riding on the new CMF-EV platform, the Leaf benefits from a new rear multi-link suspension system that offers 66 percent better lateral stiffness compared to the current model. It also boasts of an improved turning radius of just 5.3 meters, facilitated by a new electric power steering rack. It’s also much quieter and refined—thanks to a 2 decibel drop at 50 km/h.
The all-new Leaf will be the first Nissan to adopt a 3-in-1 electric powertrain which is 10 percent smaller than the current Leaf while offering up to 214 horsepower (160 kW) and 355 Nm of torque. Furthermore, the Leaf will adopt a liquid-cooled battery system for the first time. Thanks to the compact powertrain, engineers were also able to position the HVAC unit under the hood rather than behind the instrument panel. This results in a more spacious, open feeling within the cabin.
Among the new features that the Leaf will have is a dimming panoramic sunroof. Thanks to its e-dimming functionality, it eliminates the need for physical blinds or sunshades, which can compromise headroom, especially in the rear seat. Furthermore, it’s coated in an infrared (IR) reflective coating that reduces sun load.
Nissan will be releasing more information on the all-new Leaf in the coming weeks.

ReplyDeleteNissan can be bought and funded by many investors like Dongfeng which is a very wealthy state owned Chinese car manufacturer
DeleteHere we are reading about upcoming Nissan cars. Most news about them are cars that (still) haven't arrived or planned for the future that they may not even live to see. X-Trail? Absent. Ariya? DOA? Thanks for the Patrol though. That one arrived without much babbling.
