BREAKING NEWS: 2Go Halts All EV And HEVs On All Their Vessels

Share this on:

Considering a vessel carrying Chinese EVs and HEVs caught fire in the middle of the Pacific, one of the largest logistics companies in the Philippines has suspended shipments of all EVs and HEVs, regardless of brand or source.

In a statement made to its customers, 2Go says they are temporarily halting all EV and HEV shipments on all their vessels effective immediately. The decision was made to “ensure the safety of their passengers, crew, and vessels given the heightened global safety concerns surrounding EV and hybrid battery-related incidents.” You can read the full statement below.

2Go hasn’t made their guidelines public, but it’s likely that they will look at a vehicle’s OR/CR or CSR to determine whether it’s been classified as an EV or HEV. If it is, it will likely not be allowed on board. Suffice to say, green number plates, which exempts vehicles from the number coding in Metro Manila, will also be used as basis.

This development will have far reaching impact not just on customers who plan to Ro-Ro (Roll On, Roll Off) their EVs or HEVs across the Philippine nautical highway, but it will surely affect provincial dealership operations, particularly brands dealing primarily in EVs and HEVs.

So far, the EV and HEV shipping ban only affects 2Go and its customers, but it’s just going to be a matter of time when other logistics companies follow suit. If they do, it will severely limit the availability of EVs and HEVs outside Luzon potentially disrupting the expansion plans of several brands.
We would like to inform you that, effective immediately, we will temporarily hold acceptance Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hybrid Vehicles for shipment on any of our vessels.
This decision has been made as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of our passengers, crew, and vessels, given heightened global safety concerns surrounding EV and hybrid battery-related incidents.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope for your understanding as we continue to uphold the highest standards of safety in our operations.

Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact your assigned Account Manager / Executive or reach out to our Customer Interaction Center.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

Sincerely,

2GO GROUP INC.
