This might be one of the cutest police cars around: meet Sergeant Jim. The newest member of Lake Macquarie Police District’s Crime Prevention Unit in Australia, it’s a five-door Jimny outfitted not for chasing criminals, but to enhance community engagement and support the protection of vulnerable individuals.
In collaboration with Suzuki Australia (it comes at no cost to the community), Sergeant Jim will appear at various schools and community events across the of Lake Macquarie Police District which covers around 648 square kilometers. With a population of over 221,000 residents, Lake Macquarie is one of New South Wales’ largest regional cities.
The Suzuki Jimny is well known for its reliability, capability, and large popularity across diverse demographics. Packing a modest 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed automatic with 102 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque, it’s more of an ideal tool for fostering conversations and building trust within the community.
Launched in the Philippines last year, The Jimny 5-door, compared to the 3-door, sports a 2,590 mm wheelbase and an overall length stretched to 3,985 mm (+ 340 mm). The overall width and height remain the same. With that, the rear seats get thicker cushions for better comfort. The extended wheelbase and length also results in a larger cargo hold as well.
The introduction of Sergeant Jim reflects a broader trend of community engagement, with Suzuki owners across Australia organizing events that bring people together. Some gatherings have seen over 200 Suzuki vehicles participating, highlighting Suzuki's role in fostering community spirit.
Nice. For those with Jimny, how is your experience?
