Watch Out MG ZS Hybrid, BYD Sealion 5 DM-i, Chery Gives Tiggo Cross A 204-Horsepower Hybrid Powertrain

Chery Auto’s local rebranding started with the Tiggo Cross (aka Tiggo 4). While it’s been available with a normally-aspirated engine and CVT gearbox combo for some months now, perhaps this new “Chery Super Hybrid” powertrain is the shot in the arm it needs.

Known as the Tiggo 4 elsewhere, the Chery Tiggo Cross Hybrid electrifies its normally aspirated 1.5-liter 4-cylinder. The combustion engine itself is good for 96 horsepower and 118 Nm, but it’s further supplemented by a powerful 204 horsepower (150 kW) and 310 Nm electric motor. No combined outputs have been given as of yet. Weight is up some 50 kilograms, but it does help drop its 0 to 100 km/h time to just 9.4 seconds.

Interestingly, compared to other Chery hybrid setups which either were mild hybrids or plug-in hybrids, this one is a full series-parallel setup. It’s a proprietary system, Chery says, with a 1.83-kWh battery helping boost its fuel economy to 18.51 km/L. It can also go up to 1,000 kilometers between fill ups.

No word whether Chery Auto Philippines will offer the Tiggo Cross Hybrid for the local market, but given the intense competition brought on by the likes of the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i and the MG ZS Hybrid, it’s probably going to be a matter of “when” not “if” it’ll be brought in.

  1. Most likely priced at 1.3 Million Pesos if it becomes available in the Philippine market

  2. Market is flooded with Chinese cars both EV, ICE and PHEV, chery is known for pricing it just right, consumers benefit with all the competition, those Chinese brands just need to make serious the after sales.

  3. How good is chery support here? if crappy like the others, then it won't be a threat

  4. I've not much knowledge on the MG ZS HYBRID, but the SEALION 5 DMI will likely have 4-5 times the battery capacity as a PHEV, more torque which will likely make it accelerate under 9 sec. 0-100Kph, and be more efficient due to real world 20-35Km range on pure EV mode.

The SL5 base variant may even cost less than P1.3M, and have better after sales servicing and repair than Chery.

The Tiggo Cross should come in at least P100K below the SL5 for anyone to even consider it.

The Product Development and Marketing Divisions of 95% of car companies in the world are sleeping on the job. They should stop telling us what we want, and start listening to what we need.

    1. Most likely it'll be priced at 1.2 Million Pesos but they'll likely remove the ADAS of it to make it more affordable

  5. Good if chery can retrofit these hybrid setup to existing tiggo 7 pro, at a price. We call this as aftersales support.
