Volvo Cars has launched Abbey Road Studios Mode, a sound technology designed to capture the essence of the iconic recording studio’s unique environment. It will come as a free, over-the-air update to all EX90 SUVs fitted with the Bower & Wilkins audio system, while future EX90 and ES90 cars will have them included as they roll out the factory.
The EX90 has one of the quietest cabins Volvo Cars has ever created and the audio system takes full advantage of this. With 1,610-watts and 25 speakers positioned around the cabin, it can play Dolby Atmos content. The aural quality has then been developed and tuned by Bower & Wilkins engineers in collaboration with Volvo Cars.
This has led them to develop something with Abbey Road Studios inspired by the studio’s characteristic acoustic spaces and the sonic signature of the equipment used by artists and engineers to create some of the most revered albums in music history.
The Abbey Road Studios Mode comes with several presets that provide a selection of sounds, optimized for different listening styles. It can even unlock new ways of enjoying music tracks with the Producer Mode. This mode allows listeners to engineer their own sound in many ways such as shifting the acoustic from a retro vintage to a deeper, modern sound, narrowing or expanding the stereo sound field, and adjusting the acoustic environment, just as a producer or engineer would do.
