BMW Philippines Launches All-New 5 Series And First-Ever i5. Prices Start At P 4.990M (w/ Specs)

SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation has launched the latest generation of its business icon, the 5 Series, bringing with it next-level dynamics and digitalization. And for the first time ever, it is offered in an all-electric variant as well.

The eighth-generation 5 Series comes in two variants for the Philippine market. The BMW 520i is priced at P 4.990 million, while the first-ever BMW i5 eDrive40 retails for P 5,790,000. Both models come with a 5-year comprehensive BMW Warranty, while the BMW i5 eDrive40 also comes with a 6-year BMW Service Inclusive package, an 8-year high voltage battery warranty, and a BMW Wallbox charger that will be installed by a BMW i partner in the customer’s preferred location.

The all-new 5 Series presents a clear and reduced design language headlined by the latest interpretation of BMW’s iconic twin headlights and kidney grille. The LED elements, arranged almost all vertically serve as turn indicators and daytime running lights. The outline of the kidney grille itself is emphasized thanks to the standard BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting package. The prominently-styled profile has two precisely-traced character lines with the black side skirts, flush-mounted door handles, and an embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar serving as other design adornments. The 520i is fitted with silver 19-inch Triplex spoke 933 light alloy wheels, while the BMW i5 eDrive40 comes with bicolor gray 19-inch aero dynamics wheels. At the back, the flat rear lights are divided by a chrome strip in an L-shape.

There are six different kinds of paintwork for both the BMW 520i and the BMW i5 eDrive40. Both models will be available in Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Cape York Green, Oxide Grey, Phytonic Blue, and Sophisto Grey.

Inside, the 5 Series features a fully vegan interior called “Veganza.” This includes the surfaces of the newly designed sports seats, the dashboard, and the door panels, as well as the steering wheel for the first time.

With careful consideration to reduce visual noise, BMW has significantly reduced the number of buttons and controls. Adjusting vehicle settings in both models can be done through the BMW Widescreen Display which is comprised of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display. Both models also come with the BMW Interaction Bar. This backlit unit, with its crystalline surface structure, extends across the entire width of the instrument panel and encompasses the touch-sensitive control panels with haptic feedback functionality.

Standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus brings the new BMW Operating System 8.5 to both the 520i and i5 eDrive40. BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with extended functionality, adds a new dimension of intuitive interaction and personalized assistance. And for even better connectivity, the Smartphone Integration function is now compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Passengers may also conveniently charge their smartphones on the go with the wireless charging tray. BMW ConnectedDrive, which first launched on the i4, is also standard. The speaker system on both these models is from Harman Kardon. The 12-speaker, 205-watt system produces a balanced sound space for an immersive audio experience.

The 5 Series comes with two engine choices for the Philippine market. The internal combustion variant, the BMW 520i generates 208 horsepower and 330 Nm from its 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. This is enough for a 7.5-second 0 to 100 km/h time and a top speed of 230 km/h. This engine also links up with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. On the other hand, the all-electric variant of the BMW 5 Series generates 340 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque with a maximum range of 582 kilometers. The fifth generation eDrive technology lets the BMW i5 eDrive40 go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds while achieving a top speed of 193 km/h.

Driver assistance systems on the all-new 5 Series enhances driving comfort on long journeys while also increasing safety in situations where the driver doesn’t have a clear view. Both models have Parking Assistant with extended functions that includes Reversing Assistant, which takes control of the steering while backing up for distances of up to 50 meters. The BMW i5 eDrive40 also has Lane Departure Warning system with Driving Assistant while also featuring lane return by means of steering assistance.

  1. It's time to upgrade. Would selling to a used car dealer be a good idea?
