IM Is MG's Answer To Audi, Lexus, Tesla

Among Chinese carmakers, SAIC Motor isn’t known for expanding its brand portfolio left and right. In fact, despite being part of China’s “Big 4” automakers, they’ve actually opted to invest in brand building and have limited themselves to four brands. Well, make that five now with the announcement that IM will be making its global debut in, at all places, the Geneva Motor Show.

IM stands for “Intelligent Mobility” and in terms of aim, it wants to explore “new possibilities to deliver an exciting driving experience.” This brand is more premium (think Audi to Volkswagen or Lexus to Toyota).

With its sights set to launch in Europe by 2025, it will launch executive sedans and larger SUVs.

All their models will have a “clear commitment to the use of advanced technology in driving assistance and controls, intelligent and connected services for drivers as well as leading-edge EV powertrains.”

At the Geneva Motor Show, IM will unveil the all-electric IM L6 sedan. It promises a 0 to 100 km/h time of under 3 seconds and a range of more than 600 or 800 kilometers, depending on specs. The longer-range version will reportedly debut a solid-state battery.
