SMC Infrastructure Braces For More Motorists Plying Expressways

SMC Infrastructure is bracing for more vehicles to hit its tollways as the Holy Week travel season starts.

As a large number of motorists are expected to head out of Metro Manila, the company that manages STAR, SLEX, Skyway, NAIAX, and TPLEX, says that its traffic personnel have been directed to coordinate with national and local authorities to keep traffic moving especially near major exits and interchanges connected to busy highways and national roads.

To help reduce queues at toll plazas, SMC Infrastructure is encouraging cash paying motorists to shift to the Autosweep electronic toll collection (ETC) system.

Autosweep accounts have no minimum load requirement and may be topped up with the exact toll amount needed, while sticker replacement remains free for users whose tags have deteriorated over time.

All roadworks and construction activities that may disrupt traffic have been suspended from 12 PM on March 28 until 10 PM on April 5. Emergency response teams, on the other hand, have been deployed to key areas for faster assistance when needed.

The company urged motorists to observe speed limits for both safety reasons and a way to save on fuel.

Speed limits on ground-level expressways are set at 100 km/h for Class 1 vehicles and 80 km/h for Classes 2 and 3. On elevated roads such as the Skyway System and NAIAX, the limit is 80 km/h, dropping to 60 km/h along curved sections.

Motorists are also advised to make sure their vehicles are in good condition before traveling.
