Honda, Hyundai Sales Tanked Last April 2026 As Geely Climbs To Philippines' 4th Best-Selling Brand

New car sales dropped 17 percent last April 2026 compared to the previous month. Based on the joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) plus industry estimates, new car sales hit 32,400 units last April. This figure is also a decline of 8 percent versus April 2025.

In a statement, CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza said, “while the market has not fully recovered from last year’s second semester slowdown, this was further affected by the oil crisis with customers carefully considering their car purchase.”

Among CAMPI-TMA members, sales tanked 24.6 percent last April to 27,225 units versus 36,104 units in March 2026. Year-on-year, the decline has hit 18.9 percent (11.8 percent year-to-date versus 2025). These figures already include new CAMPI members such as Luxuriant Automotive Group (GWM) and Geely.

    * as new members of CAMPI, these figures consolidate their January to April figures.
The biggest monthly decliners based on CAMPI-TMA figures are legacy brands with no or limited electrified offerings. These include Mitsubishi (-39.6%), Honda (-68.3%), Nissan (-53.8%), and Ford (-27.2%). Biggest monthly gainers include BAIC (+63%), Changan (+22.7%), Lynk & Co (+19.2%), and Jetour (+11%).

Other surprising bits include the rise of Geely which became the fourth best-selling brand last April and the overtaking of Hyundai by Kia in terms of overall ranking (13th versus 9th).

Of the total April 2026 industry estimate, a total of 5,855 electrified models were sold—a slight decline versus March (-4.8 percent), but a 288 percent increase versus April 2025. Electrified vehicles now account for 22 percent of all new cars sold last April, 5 points higher than March.
  • Battery Electric Vehicles – 419 units
  • Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles – 1,329 units
  • Hybrid Electric Vehicles – 4,107 units
“The customers are very much aware of what’s practical during these times thus the increased demand for energy efficient vehicles like xEVs and lower displacement, fuel-efficient Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles,” said Atienza.

With Vinfast selling zero units last April, Tesla once again captured the best-selling EV brand title with 92 units sold, followed by Geely (90 units), MG (51 units), and Omoda Jaecoo (48 units).

In the Plug-In Hybrid category, Geely is the best-selling brand with 493 units sold followed by Jetour (387 units), Omoda Jaecoo (167 units), and Chery (86 units).

Finally, in the Hybrid Electric Vehicle category, Toyota leads with 2,870 units sold, followed by Ford (569 units), MG (219 units), and Omoda Jaecoo (112 units).

Passenger Car (PC) sales continue dropping. With only 5,578 units sold it only accounts for 20.49 percent of all new vehicles sold. It’s 19.66 percent lower than March 2026 and 14.2 percent lower than April 2025. On the other hand, Commercial Vehicles (CV) sold 21,647 units, accounting for 79.51 percent of all new cars sold. This is 25.8 percent lower than March 2026 and 20.1 percent lower than April 2025.

In order to boost momentum, CAMPI is banking on its upcoming Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) this June 4-7, 2026 to showcase more fuel efficient and electrified offerings.

  1. Geely has the best engineering quality among comrades. Could climb to number 3 once the ex2 arrives.

Perhaps, but a lot of friends and contemporaries cautioned me about a flaw in the 2nd row's backrest that's more reclined than usual, and cannot be adjusted to the usual more upright position.

I was initially green & go to purchase the X5 EMi MAX, but when I tried the 2nd row backrest I confirmed that indeed the backrest was reclined more than usual, and it did feel uncomfortable.

Sadly there was no adjusting the backrest to the more "common" upright position, and was informed by the sales executive that they had no fix for such condition.

This flaw may sound like nit-picking, but many of my friends told me that if they had known of such condition they would not have purchased the X5 EMi as many of them did not find the 2nd row backrest comfortable.

This is the reason one should always Test Drive/Ride any vehicle before they consider buying it.

It's believable considering that Ford's products are no longer competitive in both tech/features, and value for money.

Why get a Territory HEV when you can get a PHEV like the Sealion 6, Geely X5 EMi, Tiggo REV LE, etc., that cost the same or less than the Territory HEV.

The PHEVs mentioned above costs less than half to operate than most HEVs (Territory HEV included) due to their long pure EV range. PMS and or maintenance costs are likely similar between the HEVs & PHEVs since both need Engine Oil Changes(ICEs in PHEVs should need less EOCs as the ICEs in PHEVs are used considerably
      less often).

Also, brakes in PHEVs will last longer than those in HEVs if the Regeneration setting in the PHEVs are set to medium or high.

Note though that one will need Home Charging capability to maximize the PHEVs advantages over the HEVs.

Everest? The only (5 Seater?) 4X4 Everest Bi-Turbo Diesel is priced at P2.59M. The GWM Haval H9 7-Seater 4X4 Turbo Diesel costs only P1.99M.

The H9 appears to have a more upmarket interior, and or equal or better tech than the Everest.

GWM Haval makes the best selling Diesel Pickups in China as against the Everest's supposedly solid reputation.

    2. No, Geely didn't surpass Ford in monthly sales. Notice the asterisk next to Geely's numbers. The quoted Geely sales figures is for the entirety of the first third of 2026 (January-April), whereas Ford's numbers is for April 2026 sales alone.

      TL;DR
Geely needed four months just to catch up to Ford's April 2026 sales.

  4. Data is useless if manufacturers just post data that they want to show
Vinfast always not posting sales data
Geely data is from Jan - Apr which makes no sense

The government should post data of actual car registered instead but this government is so incompetent

    2. But, they're included (supposedly) in the tally that includes "other industry sources" so we could be looking at around 5,000 monthly sales for BYD?

    3. 5000 monthly sales is crazy numbers if true. 😲

    4. well, 5000 is close enough though and might be top#2 brand for April?

  7. I got the impression before that Vinfast VF3 was selling well. I guess not. Imagine, zero in a month.

  11. Are the Tesla cars sold in April the ones customers ordered in January? That is, we will see how much the Iran war affected their sales only in June and July reports?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Likely those ordered February to March. So, the big boost from April should reflect in May to June.

  12. Geely sales at 1,119 is from Jan-Apr not April sales alone..
