What Do You Think Of Honda's New Design Language?

Honda is rebuilding its automotive business after its sudden pull out of its pure BEV ambitions. The carmaker’s President and Global CEO Toshihiro Mibe confirmed a pivot to gasoline-electric hybrids with 15 models to be launched globally by March 31, 2030.

“Honda will reallocate more development and production resources into hybrid models to accelerate the market launch ahead of the original schedule and increase the number of compelling products,” said Toshihiro Mibe, global CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. “We have made steady progress in the development of hybrid vehicle technologies, where Honda has strengths, based on our belief that hybrid models will continue to be the key to addressing environmental challenges.”

One such vehicle previewed is the “Honda Hybrid Sedan Prototype.” In the Honda vernacular, the “Prototype” moniker signals a very strong mass production intent and it’s seen in the Hybrid Sedan’s lack of outlandish design cues. Although not addressed, it bears a strong resemblance to the stillborn Honda 0 Sedan. It is very likely that Honda re-engineered the platform and design to accommodate its upcoming next-generation hybrid system.

Confirmed by Honda, the next generation of the two-motor hybrid system has been thoroughly improved to expand the range where the engine operates most efficiently and increase the driving efficiency of the hybrid unit itself. Honda is targeting to improve the fuel economy of the next-generation hybrid models by more than 10 percent, while reducing system costs by 30 percent. This will all be done without any detriment to its sporty driving character. In addition, a newly developed electric AWD unit will allow highly precise and responsive motor control.

The Honda Hybrid Sedan will also use a next-generation ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), which is planned for introduction starting in 2028. The advanced system promises a higher level of autonomous driving with the vehicle operating acceleration and steering on both expressway and surface roads, based on the navigation system.
