Cover Your Eyes Enthusiasts, This Is The 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse


Mitsubishi is reviving the Eclipse nameplate yet again, only this time, it’s not carrying the “Cross” suffix anymore. But, before you think it’ll be a sporty coupe befitting Fast and the Furious, think again. It’s back as nothing more than a rebadged Nissan Leaf. Yup, the Eclipse has gone full electric now.

Continuing its trend of recycling nameplates for totally unrelated vehicles, the 2027 Eclipse (now officially known as the Eclipse Sportback) will simply offer cosmetic differences to the Nissan Leaf. In that regard, it will gain unique front and rear fascias, front and rear lights and lighting signatures, and alloy wheels. It does share the same platform, the CMF-EV platform, which offers independent suspension all around.


Mitsubishi will reveal the full specifications in the coming months (it goes on sale in the second half of 2026 in some global markets), but looking at the Nissan Leaf, expect either a 52 or 75 kWh liquid cooled lithium-ion battery pack providing power to either a 217 horsepower, 355 Nm or 176 horsepower, 345 Nm front motor.

Expect it also to benefit from a fast-charging capability of up to 150 kW, enabling it to recover up to 418 kilometers of range in just 30 minutes. With that, the Eclipse/Leaf should be able to do an 804-kilometer road trip with minimal time difference to combustion engine vehicles. It will also likely sport the NACS charging standard in North America.

    I thought they would call this the Lancer Sportback... atleast that would make more sense than another "Eclipse"

    Mitsubishi joining the "We want our own Nissan Leaf" club. First Ferrari builds the Luce, now Mitsubishi wants a turn. Who knew a 2010 pioneer EV would become the ultimate design blueprint for 2026?

    Rename to Eclipse LeafBack can be better. There's senti recall to 2 legacy models.
