Initially, plans are for Mazda to roll out its MX-30 compact crossover to more markets. In Europe, it’s now being offered as the brand’s first full EV, while in Japan, it’s offered as a mild-hybrid as well. By the first half of 2022, it will spawn a range-extended version with a small rotary engine serving as a power generator. It is this version that will be rolled out globally.

Also, in 2022, Mazda will introduce a plug-in hybrid riding on its large vehicle platform.

By 2023, Mazda will start rolling out its “multi-solution” strategy for electrification. This includes a brand-new platform designed exclusively for its next-generation electric vehicles. That will be rolled out sometime from 2023 to 2026.

By 2030, the entire line-up will have been electrified.

In order to deliver the surge in electrified offerings, Mazda has already overhauled the production line at its Ujina 1 plant in Hiroshima to accommodate mixed production of EVs such as the MX-30. Mazda has long prided itself on its capacity for flexible output from a single line.

That being said, the carmaker will continue development of its internal combustion engine. Its next-generation diesel engine is planned for introduction in 2022, while its autonomous driving technology, Mazda Co-Pilot will be launched in 2025.
