2022 Mazda BT-50 Is Rated 5 Stars At Stringent ANCAP Test

Just like its Isuzu sibling, the D-MAX, Mazda’s all-new BT-50 has managed to score a perfect five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program or ANCAP.

Tested according to the stringent standards set by ANCAP, made more stringent in the latest round of test updates for 2020 and beyond, the BT-50 performed strongly across all criteria to achieve the highest possible safety score.

The BT-50 scored 31.66 out of 38 (83 percent) in Adult Occupancy Protection, 44 out of 49 (89 percent) in Child Occupant Protection, 36.62 out of 54 (67 percent) in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 13.49 out of 16 (84 percent) in Safety Assist Technology.

The rating applies to the BT-50 equipped with ADAS or the Advanced Driver Assist System. This will likely apply to the higher, or top-of-the-line trims for the Philippine market.

Mazda’s ADAS uses stereoscopic cameras and bundles technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control (automatic models), Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert as standard equipment for the first time. The system is similar to the one used in the D-MAX LS-E.

Other safety features include Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), a full suite of airbags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Roll Over Protection (ROP), and Traction Control System (TCS).
