Omoda To Enter Philippine Market

Another Chinese brand is set to enter the Philippine market: Omoda. Omoda, Chery’s global brand aimed at young trendsetters, will enter the market independent of current Chery distributor, UAAGI.

The name, which is a combination of “O” representing “brand-new” and “Moda” meaning fashion trend, will enter the market with a “well-established distributor partner.” Executives from Omoda China, citing confidentiality as the distributorship agreement is still being finalized, did not name who this Philippine partner is. The planned launch date no later than October.

Initially, they will enter the market with one model, the Omoda 5.

The Omoda 5 is a global model developed within the framework of the “Art in Motion” concept. The philosophy is based on the idea that functional design could be beautiful, seen from the outside, and experienced behind the wheel.

The compact crossover has a fastback silhouette. It’s form and function combined as the sporty shape reduces aerodynamic drag and reduces overall fuel consumption. Upfront, it has a frameless diamond grille, T-shaped DRLs and dynamic turn signal lights. The fashion-forward design elements are also shown with its 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, floating roof motif, and high-gloss black finish on the B- and C-pillars. At the back, the full-length LED lighting provides the appearance of a futuristic car.

Inside, the Omoda 5 has one-piece sport bucket front seats, two 10.25-inch displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and advanced voice commands. Features include a high-efficiency cabin filter, wireless charging, and dual zone climate control.

Despite its compact exterior measurements (4,400 mm overall length and 1,830 mm overall width), the Omoda 5’s 2,630 mm wheelbase realizes ample space for five adults. Meanwhile, it’s luggage space can accommodate 292 to 360 liters.

Riding on the T1X platform, the Omoda 5 will have ample ground clearance (190 mm). Powering it will be a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. With that, it’ll make a healthy 146 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm. This engine is mated to a CVT gearbox driving the front wheels.

Image pricing for the Omoda 5 will be less than P 1.5-million according to Omoda executives. Six colors are being considered: Aviation Silver, White, Vanilla Blue, Carbon Crystal Black, Phantom Gray, and Midnight Blue.

After the Omoda 5, executives from the brand has said that the line-up will grow quickly with two other Omoda vehicles as well as a slew of plug-in hybrid offerings.

  3. Same look as Changan UNi T model. I guess same body and platform as Chinese secretly allowed all local car manufacturers to share technical information. As similar to the Tranny of Geely Coolray and MG RX5/HS model using 7Speed WET type Gears.
