Toyota Confirms Hilux Hybrid Coming In 2024

Toyota has confirmed that the Hilux pickup truck will sport a turbocharged diesel hybrid powertrain. It is due to arrive in the first half of 2024 for global markets, including Australia where the announcement was made.

No word yet on a possible Philippine release, but Toyota has revealed that compared to the current 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV engine, the electrified engine will offer a 10 percent fuel economy improvement.

The system will use a 48-volt mild hybrid system and will be paired to the current 2.8-liter turbodiesel and a six-speed automatic. It will also sport a small electric motor-generator as well.

In addition to delivering improved fuel economy, 48-Volt Technology will also enable a stop/start system, improved drivability, and reduced noise, vibration and harshness. It will also likely boost the outputs of the 1GD-FTV from the current 204 horsepower, 500 Nm outputs.

Furthermore, the addition of 48-Volt Technology will not have any impact on the capability of the Hilux meaning it will maintain key metrics including its 3,500-kilogram braked towing capacity.
