Suzuki Launches XL7 Hybrid In ASEAN

The Suzuki Ertiga’s SUV derivative, the XL7 gets the same hybrid treatment along with new exterior cosmetic changes for 2023.

Launched in Indonesia for the ASEAN market, the XL7 Hybrid now packs the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki or SHVS system, like the Ertiga Hybrid. This pairs Suzuki’s tried-and-tested 1.5-liter K15B engine with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a lightweight lithium-ion battery.

Compared to the Ertiga Hybrid, the XL7 Hybrid gets a slightly uprated motor (105 horsepower versus 103 horsepower), while torque is the same at 138 Nm. Like Suzuki’s compact MPV, this SUV-fied version is available in both a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic in Indonesia. Read our review of the Ertiga Hybrid here.

The SHVS system captures energy when the XL7 Hybrid is coasting and stores it in the 12-volt lithium-ion battery pack. This then powers the on-board electronics, reducing load on the engine improving its fuel efficiency. It also comes with an idle start/stop system. The ISG also acts as a supplemental motor improving its low-end power.

Visually communicating the electrified powertrain, the XL7 Hybrid now gets a black grille along with black-painted 16-inch alloy wheels with 195/60R16 tires. A dual-tone color is also available as an option.

Features of the XL7 Hybrid include cruise control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and an e-mirror (camera-based rearview mirror). For safety, it receives dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control.

Unofficially, Suzuki Philippines has said that the XL7 Hybrid will join the local line-up before the year ends.

Pricing of the XL7 Hybrid starts at 283.9 million rupiah (1.06 million) and tops out at 304.9 million rupiah (P 1.14 million) in Indonesia.

  1. to attract more customers, the price of XL7 hybrid should be lower than the yaris cross. maybe 1,350,000 pesos for the top of the line.
