Mitsubishi Triton Aces Tough ANCAP Safety Test

The all-new Mitsubishi Triton continues to show its adherence to global safety standard by acing yet another New Car Assessment Program or NCAP test. After getting a 5-star rating at the ASEAN NCAP, Mitsubishi’s next-generation pickup truck managed the same in the more stringent Australasian New Car Assessment Program or ANCAP.

The ANCAP testing body reference the Triton’s extensive airbag set as well as extensive active safety suite that includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (car-to-car, pedestrian, cyclist, junction) as well as a lane support system with Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning.

During its crash test, the Triton’s passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test. Protection of the driver’s chest and lower legs were found to be adequate, while it was good for all other critical body regions (including the front passenger).

In the full width front test, protection of the driver was good for all critical body areas, while rear passengers were found to be adequate for the neck (weak for the chest, however).

In the side impact test, protection offered to all critical body regions of the driver was rated as good.

In the oblique pole test, protection was adequate for the chest of the driver and good for all other critical body regions.

During water intrusions, it was found that the doors would of the Triton would remain functional for the minimal required period.

For those who want the breakdown, this is how the Triton scored:
  • 89 percent Child Occupant Protection
  • 86 percent Adult Occupant Protection
  • 74 percent Vulnerable Road User Protection
  • 70 percent Safety Assist

  1. 5 star ANCAP is good, they have similar standards to Euro NCAP... meanwhile, Xpander (and possibly Xforce) get 4 stars in the lenient ASEAN NCAP lol so maybe those are equivalent to 3-star or 2-star ratings

  2. Haven't seen a lot of Triton on the road yet. Still being heavily dominated by the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.

    1. I’ve seen one on the road and it really stood out. Looks beefier than the Strada.
