BYD Has Produced Its 13 Millionth New Energy Vehicle

BYD has produced their 13 millionth new energy vehicle—the first carmaker globally to reach the feat. The historic vehicle is the Yangwang U7 super sportscar which rolled off the production line last July 21.

The commitment of BYD to switch its entire model strategy across multiple brands to solely electrified powertrains (New Energy Vehicles are defined as pure electric or Super Hybrid with DM Technology) continues to resonate with ever-increasing numbers of consumers seeking greener technologies worldwide. As a result, the step from 10 million NEVs to 13 million NEVs took around eight months. For context, it took BYD 13 years to build its first million NEVs.

In the first half of 2025, BYD sold a total of 2,145,954 new energy passenger vehicles globally, further cementing its position as the world’s top-selling NEV brand. Of these, 470,086 passenger vehicles and pick-up trucks were sold in overseas markets, with year-on-year growth of 128.5 percent demonstrating BYD’s growing international footprint.

The model that rolled off the production line to create the 13 millionth NEV milestone, the Yangwang U7, is now being delivered to customers across China. The U7 is equipped with groundbreaking technologies including the DiSus-Z intelligent body control system, the e4 platform, a horizontally opposed motor, and rear-wheel steering. These advanced features deliver exceptional performance, outstanding vehicle stability, ultra-responsive handling, and superior safety, offering drivers a new level of driving control and comfort.

Yangwang is BYD’s high-end luxury sub-brand, and it continues to make progress in its market segments. Since its launch, YANGWANG has attracted strong attention from media and customers alike, and its cumulative deliveries have now surpassed 10,000 units.

Founded in 1995, BYD (Build Your Dreams) is the only NEV producer to have developed its own power systems, power batteries, automotive semiconductors, motors, and motor controller systems. Currently, BYD employs over 120,000 engineers and technicians, and it applies for more than 40 new patents every working day.

BYD introduced the game-changing Blade Battery in 2020. The flat, rectangular design of the Blade Battery ensures better cooling and preheating, and the fully cobalt-free lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry successfully passed a puncture test designed to simulate internal short circuits caused by sharp objects penetrating the battery during a severe traffic accident. During the test, the battery’s temperature ranged from 30 to 60 degrees Celsius, and no smoke or flames were emitted. Blade Batteries can also withstand more than 5,000 charge and discharge cycles.

    1. Once even more of their cars get on the road then you will have a larger sample size to compare. Many diehards will say they will never reach that level. Most people will just vote with their wallet and sales will reflect the public's confidence the more time you give it.

  2. With so many scandals on byd recently, i will take the numbers with a grain of salt.

    1. I'm curious to hear which scandal you could share that you're 100% sure is true? Like with proper sources and stuff. Not trying to be hostile, it's just I find the many 'scandals' that are being brought up are kinda flimsy when you dig deeper.

  4. This is what most car experts in the world agree. BYD is on track to become the no. 1 car brand in the world by 2030. It will be on a neck and neck race with Volkswagen for no. 2 this year but still way behind Toyota for no. 1 at least for the next couple of years. BYD and Toyota is not hostile with each other as evidenced by their recent collaborations.

    1. Maybe in a thousand years, every car companies now making EV's/PHEV's to compete directly with BYD. China comrades, specially GEELY catching up on byd in china. Volkswagen group, nissan and toyota's china made EV's are now selling well in china. Kia, hyundae and european brands now making affordable EV's. BYD cancel car plants in brazil and mexico, byd cannot enter india and USA the 2nd and 3rd largest car market in the world. Byd caught by china regulator inflating sales.

    2. I'm guessing you're the same guy who just posts these cobbled together snippets of (anti-BYD) news in other articles but can't say anything more than these poorly structured claims.

Competition is well and good and I'm not gonna comment about the other companies you mentioned however many of your claims are just plain wrong.

BYD canceled in Brazil? Google BYD Brazil and the first result is "First BYD 100% Electric Vehicle Rolls off the Line in Brazil" from July 1, 2025 straight from BYD's website. If you still think even that's fake news you can read the Reuters article below that result.

Mexico? Yes, but this plant was planned to bypass tariffs to sell to the US. Now that that's harder the plant was cancelled. Mexico itself however is still wide open and is becoming a big customer for BYD.

Cannot enter India? You must be talking about the visa issues of BYD execs due to the China-India border problems (what a way to twist this news as affecting all of BYD lol). BYD is still operating in India and sales are increasing, same as other regions.

Lastly, Chinese regulators have not named BYD. Only Zeekr so far has been mentioned by state media. You want to focus on the allegations that do name BYD? Google 'BYD inflating sales' and you'll see a Reuters article from 3 days ago. You know what you find inside that article? This line: "In 14 complaints on the three platforms, buyers of BYD-, Neta-, Toyota-, Buick- and Chevrolet-branded cars said they were told by dealers the practice was aimed at booking sales early to meet targets." If that's true then go ahead and try to separate Toyota, Buick, and Chevrolet from the messy dealer practices happening there.

  6. BYD’s own financial data expose how the company buried over 125 billion yuan in hidden costs, delayed supplier payments, and manufactured the illusion of profitability. Despite claiming massive profits, BYD is operating on a zero-profit model just to crush competitors. With working capital deeply in the red, its survival hinges on relentless sales growth. This is the untold story behind BYD’s success—and why it may be far more fragile than it looks. China’s EV maker BYD has come under fire from competitors for waging a suicidal price war. The EV giant is now being called the “Evergrande of the auto industry” due to its hidden debt problems. A Hong Kong research firm recently revealed that BYD’s net debt may be ten times higher than the reported figure. The company has been offloading its financial liabilities onto suppliers and forcing aggressive sales quotas onto dealers. If BYD defaults, it could drag down the entire EV industry in China. What if China’s electric vehicle miracle is a ticking time bomb—and BYD is the fuse? Backed by Xi Jinping and showered with state support, BYD has been hailed as China’s Tesla killer. But behind the headlines lies a brutal price war, hidden debts, collapsing suppliers, and a shaky financial foundation eerily reminiscent of Evergrande. If BYD collapses, BYD car owners will be left holding an empty bag with no support, parts availability and close to nothing resale values.

  7. July sales ng byd bagsak from june, di na siguro makalusot zero mileage sales padding.

    1. You're realy bringing up global sales data here? Wut. Well, globally, July sales are down 10% lower than June so if yan ang definition mo ng bagsak I guess palagi kang super happy sa mga 5-10% discounted sales, good for you po. Though positive nmn ang sales year-to-year sa same period (.6% so small but still positive).

Pero honestly, meaningless ang mag compare ng month-to-month sales kasi may ups and downs ang market. Yung latest CAMPI report nga shows na down by 24% ang passenger car sales sa Pinas. Given na ang laki ng share ng Toyota sa reported sales nila does that mean na nawalan ng demand ang mga tao sa mga Toyota cars? Hindi diba? Parang needs more padding ang assertion mo po kasi medyo hindi rin makakalusot e.
