Are These The Leaked Specs Of The First-Ever BYD Atto 2 For The Philippines?

A couple of months back, the BYD Atto 2 quietly received its LTO homologation certification. Now, it seems another government agency has, of all things, inadvertently spilled the specs.

Appearing the Department of Energy (DOE)’s list of recognized electric vehicles, the Atto 2 is shaping up to arrive with two variants: the Atto 2 Dynamic and Atto 2 Premium.

Confirming the previously revealed LTO specs, the Atto 2 Dynamic sports a smaller battery and a less powerful motor. The indicated output is 70 kW (95 horsepower) and 180 Nm which points to the Chinese domestic market’s 32-kWh version. This one will have a range of 280 kilometers (NEDC) and a top speed of 160 km/h. The quoted 0 to 100 km/h time is 12 seconds.

On the other hand, the Premium sports a 130 kW (176 horsepower), 290 Nm motor giving it a top speed of 180 km/h. These specs are the same as what Europe gets. This one sports the 45.12-kWh battery giving 380 kilometers of range (NEDC), as confirmed in its specs. 0 to 100 km/h? 7.9 seconds.

Confirming its LTO homologation paperwork, the Philippine spec Atto 2 EV will measure in at 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. Front and tracks are quoted at 1,570 mm, while the ground clearance is an ample 150 mm.

Now, per its DOE documentation, both the Atto 2 Dynamic and Atto 2 Premium will have a maximum AC charging rate of 7 kW, but the Atto 2 Premium will top up on a DC fast charger quicker thanks to its 65 kW peak rate (45 kW for the Atto 2 Dynamic).

Outside, both variants of the Atto 2 will sport the same exterior features—16-inch wheels with 215/65R16 tires and a power tailgate. The only visible difference? Only the Atto 2 Premium gets power folding sideview mirrors. Inside, both variants will sport an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control with PM 2.5 filter, and synthetic leather seats.

The Atto 2 Premium, however, builds on that with a larger infotainment screen (12.8-inch versus 10.1-inch), more speakers (6 versus 4), and a power adjust for the driver’s seat. In terms of safety, it’s the only variant with one-touch up/down with anti-pinch for all windows, curtain airbags, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

If launched in the Philippines, the Atto 2 could possibly bridge the gap between two BYD EVs—the Seagull and the Atto 3. The Seagull is priced at P 898,000, while the Atto 3 is priced starting at P 1,598,000. It’s plausible that the Atto 2 will replace the Dolphin and will therefore start at P 1.1-million and go up to around P 1.3-million for the Premium variant.

With the Atto 2 now receiving both the LTO and DOE’s nod, expect it to launch before the end of the year.

  1. There is a Dolphin refresh that hasn't launched in the Philippines. If the nameplate will be replaced by the Atto 2, then we likely won't see that, seeing the pricing and capabilities of both overlap. OR BYD could keenly populate the low-million price point to better capture more converts to EVs.
