The BYD Atto 2 EV Is Coming To The Philippines

Whoa. If the arrival of the Sealion 5 DM-i isn’t enough of a deathblow to other Chinese brands, particularly those competing in the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) space, BYD Cars Philippines has just received LTO certification for yet another entry-level SUV: the Atto 2.

Appearing in LTO homologation papers is the Atto 2 EV. Based on the documentation, it measures in at 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm.

There are two versions per the filing, the Atto 2 Dynamic and the Atto 2 Premium. The Dynamic sports a smaller battery and a less powerful motor. The indicated output is 70 kW (95 horsepower) and 180 Nm which points to the Chinese domestic market’s 32-kWh version. This one will have a range of 380 kilometers and a top speed of 160 km/h. On the other hand, the Premium sports a 130 kW (176 horsepower) motor giving it a top speed of 180 km/h. Theese specs are the same as what Europe gets. This one will likely sport the 45.1-kWh battery giving 380 kilometers of range too, per its official documentation.

Visually, the Atto 2 takes on a look first seen in the Atto 3 SUV. It has full LED headlights and slim DRLs giving it a strong visual presence. Differentiating it from the Atto 3 though, the Atto 2 does have much more cladding at the side. This is on purpose, BYD says, as it accentuates its agile looks and emphasizes its height. It also has a floating roofline that’s punctuated by a body-colored element at the C-pillar. Confirmed for both variants are 215/65R16 wheels and tires.

If launched in the Philippines, the Atto 2 could possibly bridge the gap between two BYD EVs—the Seagull and the Atto 3. The Seagull is priced at P 898,000, while the Atto 3 is priced starting at P 1,598,000. It’s plausible that the Atto 2 will start at around P 1-million and go up to around P 1.3-million for the Atto 2 Premium.

  2. A taller car for those who find the Seagull too low-riding.

  4. Ang dami sunod sunod labas ng byd. Combined with other Chinese brands, nakakalito parang Oppo, vivo, Huawei, one plus, etc. Walang identifiable na product. All classified as China cars

    1. Yep. Aside from that, BYD is squeezing existing owners with their pace of releases. I can only imagine how much value used Dolphins and Sealion 6s will lose when the Atto 2 and the Sealion 5 are released. Chinese owners are complaining about this very issue when BYD announced that autonomous driving will come to all future BYD vehicles.

    2. BYD PH better give generous trade in offers to existing BYD owners to offset the value lost by current owners due to BYD’s frequent releases.

    1. Until the time that they declare their sales on a regular basis, we only know for now that the Chinese brands are the ones greatly affected.

  7. You are right until then. But I'am pretty sure Toyota HEV sales are affected. With the announcement of 10,000 units sold overall, it seems they sold about 5,000 in less than 6 months, exceeding their previous record. At that rate, they should rank higher this year, especially on passenger car sales alone.

  8. The BYD Atto 2 is already available in Europe and the reviews are lackluster. According to most of them, the Atto 2’s ride is unsettled at speed (I can attest to this on the Atto 3, BYDs tend to be softly sprung). They also remarked that it’s a rather inefficient EV, the larger 45kwh battery is only capable of 250km of real world range. That’s practically the same range as the local BYD Seagull, which owners have remarked as having a real world range of 250km, more or less.

    1. Nah, 2 years wala na bibili nyan as 2nd hand, old outdated na. mas mura na and mas techie na new model. Current price trend ng china cars dito pinas pamura ng pamura.

  10. The pace of new tech and models is good for future evs but not for current or potential buyers. Evs sold now might age really quickly. Ota updates can only do so much. Mature older companies more conservative.

  11. Buy BYD today...next year it will already be an old outdated model😅😅😅

    1. This is a new small EV SUV from BYD
It's meant as a cheaper alternative to the Atto 3

    2. It would be a different story if BYD’s fast pace of releases is due to innovation, but no, they’re just flooding the market with new models to depress prices and drive out competition. This practice is called dumping, which is a form of economic sabotage. For consumers, it’s a good thing due to the low prices it entails, at least for the short term. For businesses on the other end of the dumping, it’s a death sentence. Ultimately, consumers will lose because competition will disappear. The market dumper gets market dominance and will be in a position to dictate higher prices to recoup initial losses. Tread carefully.

    3. Decimate...then dominate.
