Just when you thought Hyundai Motor Philippines will have its all-new Elantra cover both the sub- and compact sedan segments thanks to its top-notch pricing, it’s just been revealed that they’re bringing in the all-new Accent after all.
The Accent appears in a certification document found in the LTO database which gives us a good picture of what kind of specs to expect. Based on the document, which helps determine the sort of registration fees and/or classification the Accent would fall under (it’s classified as an M1 vehicle), the specs appear to mirror the all-new model launched in India. This is confirmed by its general measurements: an overall length of 4,535 mm, an overall width of 1,765 mm, and an overall height of 1,475 mm. Wheelbase, per the LTO document is 2,670 mm, while the ground clearance is at 165 mm.
Also found in the LTO filing is the Accent’s engine which appears as a normally-aspirated 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to an automatic transmission. This gives it a top speed of 190 km/h. Other confirmed details include the tire size which are 205/55R16s.
If Hyundai Motor Philippines does bring in the Accent, they won’t have much choice when it comes to sourcing. Unless Indonesia decides to build it alongside the Stargazer and Creta, the only place where it’s assembled currently is in Chennai, India. If proven right, this won’t be the first time the Korean automaker would source its products from the subcontinent. The previous distributor also sourced it Accent (as well as its other entry-level models) from India.
A gander at the Indian market specs of the Accent shows us that the potential spec that Hyundai Motor Philippines would bring in is the well-equipped SX variant.
The Accent SX in India comes with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that offers 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to Hyundai’s clever IVT or Intelligent Variable Transmission which is a CVT with a built-in shift logic.
Jumping to possible specs, it will come with Hyundai’s head-turning Sensual Sportiness design language. The seamless horizon LED light bar is present, as is Hyundai’s parametric grille design (finished in high-gloss black). The compound-style LED headlights have also been integrated into the grille as are the turn signal lights. The rear echoes the angular styling found in the Elantra, but does have one rather maligned aesthetic feature: the Modulo-like rear spoiler.
Inside, the Accent gains the same “floating” instrument cluster motif seen in other current Hyundai models. However, the setup here makes do with a simplified digital gauge cluster (ala the Stargazer). In India, it’s offered with a dual-tone black and beige interior scheme, but hopefully, Hyundai Motor Philippines shifts it to the sportier monotone black. Feature-wise, it’ll probably get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. If the specs are aggressive enough, expect features like leather seats, a sunroof, and even an 8-speaker Bose sound system.
As for safety, the Accent SX will probably not get Hyundai’s SmartSense ADAS, but it might come with a full complement of airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, parking sensors, and a parking camera. All in all, it’s been rated as compliant with 5-star Global NCAP safety standards.
In India, the all-new Accent (Verna) starts out at around P 720,000 (converted) and tops out at around P 1.120 million. However, with the Elantra already available with a P 1.065-million price tag, expect the Accent to fall inline with other 1.5-liter sub-compact sedans. Likely, it’ll be priced at close to P 1-million—P 998,000 would be our guestimate.
This Hyundai Accent Sedan will be sourced from Vietnam where Hyundai is the number 1 most popular car manufacturer in that country
ReplyDeleteIf it'll be, that's cool. The pricing will be much more competitive.
DeleteI have seen it in VN this year. Design looks sharp and futuristic. Hope they can bring in a hybrid version eventually
ReplyDeleteThere's no Hybrid version of it.
DeleteI though it's Vinfast that's more popular there.
ReplyDeleteWhy likely? They should launch it if they want to sell more.
ReplyDeleteAny word on whether they'll bring back the i10 here? There's a market for small hatchbacks they could compete with Brio, Wigo, and Seagull. Heck they could bring the i10 online so we can have our very own pocket rocket. An alternative for the cheap /boring hatchbacks
ReplyDeletei10 ain't coming back due to pricing issues
DeleteI hope this will be priced competitively. It should already have ADAS at around 1m or else the Honda City V with Honda Sensing would still be a better choice bec of its more powerful engine and safety features.
ReplyDeleteUpon fact checking. Hyundai is not even in the top 5 in Vietnam. It is Toyota Mitsubishi ford Mazda kia.
