Yes, EV And HEV Owners Can Still Use EDSA Freely Despite Upcoming Odd/Even Scheme

Electric vehicles and hybrids will still be exempted from the upcoming EDSA odd-even scheme, this is according to a report published in Top Gear Philippines.

Top Gear Philippines reached out to a representative of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the MMDA who both confirmed that EVs and hybrids recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE) are exempted from the upcoming traffic volume reduction scheme to be implemented by the MMDA considering the 1.5-year EDSA rehab project.

The odd-even scheme, which will commence Monday, June 16 will enforce vehicle bans depending on the last number of their Conduction Sticker or Plate Number:
  • Banned on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays: Ending 1, 3, 5, 7, 9
  • Banned on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays: Ending 0, 2, 4, 6, 8
  • All cars may freely use EDSA on Sundays and Holidays.
Aside from the odd/even scheme on EDSA, the DOTr and MMDA says they will offer free toll in parts of Skyway Stage 3 by July or August, increase the capacity of MRT-3 as well as the bus carousel lane, and possibly have motorcycles share the bike lanes.

    1. onga eh, I thought Mild Hybrids are not part of the exempted list? Ang unfair naman para sa mga Suzuki mild hybrids

  2. EDSA traffic is an issue about volume, not pollution. Every EV/Hybrid vehicle occupies space like any other ICE car. At, wala rin kasi akong EV/Hybrid!

    1. EVIDA Law is pretty definitive and clear-cut about coding exemptions. There's no way around it.

  4. Expect a lot of public uproar. Everyone should pay their fair share in sacrificing while EDSA is being repaired.

    1. That’s the point. Think of it as affirmative action, but for cars.
