2026 Mitsubishi Xpander Is Safer Than Ever

It what could be its final refresh before the all-new model bows in, Mitsubishi Motors has given its Xpander MPV (as well as its SUV derivative, the Xpander Cross) some minor changes for the 2026 model year.

Carrying from where the 2022 refresh left off, the Xpander continues to get the same Dynamic Shield design, but with a new grille with a silver upper horizontal bar and vertical inserts. The headlights also feature a smoked finish, while the front fog lights now offer LED illumination. At the back, the rear bumper has also been redesigned to further emphasize its width thanks to horizontal reflectors. Ten-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels with a turbine-style finish complete the exterior changes.

On the other hand, the Xpander Cross amps up its ruggedness with its own unique grille, front and rear bumpers, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the Xpander gets a full-black color scheme, while the Xpander Cross goes for black and burgundy. It also receives a new three-spoke steering wheel and an 8-inch digital gauge cluster. Also new for 2026 is a larger infotainment screen with a diagonal screen size of 10 inches.

Mitsubishi is also taking safety quite seriously with the Xpander as the the second-row seats finally gain a middle headrest. Meanwhile, the airbag has moved up from two to six (at least for the top-of-the-line model). It also gets the usual ABS with EBD, hill start assist, as well as Active Yaw Control from the Xforce, and a 360-degree camera.

Powering the Xpander and Xpander Cross is still the same 1.5-liter MIVEC 4-cylinder (4A91) mated to either a 5-speed manual or CVT.

The updated Xpander and Xpander Cross is now on sale in Indonesia with other markets in ASEAN, likely including the Philippines, to follow within the next few months. Hopefully, by then it will come with an option of a hybrid.

  2. Was more interested in the hybrid being launched than this, which they could have just fitted with the new infotainment/360 camera, airbags, etc. without the exterior changes.
